I rode sport bikes for 15 years and each new bike I brought home I would get out the grinder and start removing what was not necessary. Made the missus nervous.....

My wife doesn't want to know what I'm doing in the garage.

Mark, if I owned a TT, you know those are the first parts I'd remove

Cheers,
Joe

That's the beauty of the Patrick plugs - you'll never need to look into those holes again.

You car will probably run better without the duct tape though...

So what's the best way for us 96+ cars to avoid the dreaded SAI failure? I guess it's just using a healthy dose of Techron every now and then, and then crossing your fingers and praying for the best??? I have read up this several times but never really come away feeling good about it. Guess it's the only REAL achilles heel of the 993. Still better than the 996 IMS issue!

After completing this DIY I seem to have developed an oil leak in this area. Did I reinstall certain bolts improperly? Any positive input would be appreciated. My wife has already convinced me I'm an idiot!

Michael,
Did you re-install the bolt(s) for the breather cover? If I remember correctly, one or more of the bolts that held the SAI bracket to the engine also served to fasten the breather cover to the engine block.

Additionallly, I believe I shortened one of these so as not to bottom it out within its threaded bore.

My SAI removal.

All, I have a friends whose OBDII 993 ECU was reprogrammed to always set SAI flag to OK or YES and he's not had any smog or CEL issues related to SAI after that. Does that mean he can remove all the SAI hardware like some have done?

Interesting statement. Can you let us know how he reprogrammed to have no flags from SAI?

His mechanic had it done at a tune of $1100... failed smog before, but passed no problem after... It will never fail smog because of the SAI, ever...

That there is pretty funny!

I'm leaving cruise control as-is. Upcoming trip to Monterey with the "secondary throttle/governor" in the passenger seat means it will get used on the freeway- albeit at a fairly high setting.

Thanks, it was obvious to me what I had done once I got it back apart. The first time I did it I didn't remove the intake. This time, I was very surprised to find what seemed like a lot of oil down stream from the throttle body. Any thoughts on this would be appreiciated.

This conversation is like a perennial garden that never blooms. I would love to see the definitive solution that is simple and cheap.
