Default Do Tiptronics command this premium?

This popped up on my local craigslist this AM.

http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/1532497172.html

Obviously it is not a show car but a very nice 993 tip. The tools and air pump are missing. Looks like it has a bilstien suspension of some sort. Nice options but the blue interior is love or hate it. Odd things are tach replacement and the insturment dials look faded in the photos. The wheel wells and control arms looked to be sprayed with some sort of "true coat" (for those that have seen Fargo)

UPDATE: I emailed the owner out of curiosity. The car is from Michigan (true coat, he, he). Here are the leak down results from when he bought it in Oct. 2008:

Cyl#1 - 75/180 psi - 3%
Cyl#2 - 80/180 psi - 5%
Cyl#3 - 80/180 psi - 5%
Cyl#4 - 80/180 psi - 5%
Cyl#5 - 75/180 psi - 5%
Cyl#6 - 75/180 psi - 4%

Would this car really bring 29K plus?

Tips are a $2-3K liabililty. Do not pay a premium.

I have a tip, and it suits my needs well. They're also mechanically bulletproof.

However, for those who insist on shifting gears manually in order to maintain the true and proper sports car Porsche experience, the tip detracts.

I agree. Tips are worth less, not more.

Agreed yet one thing to consider.. in as an example...PDK was the pitch to the 'family' (read bride) that gave me the support required to get my (our) TT ordered. A 'tip' car, when in a desirable colour combination, can prove invaluable to some guys pitching the deal at home....

Just a thought.

Hi There

The market for manual 993's is bigger than for Tips for sure. My wife only drives autos and I like autos anyway so it was fine for us. It will not be worth as much as the equiv manual when it is time to sell (which is never by the way )

By the way, i think it looks like a very nice car. It seems the have Bilstein HD shocks fitted which are good non adjustable units. I am about to fit the same to my 993.

What Bilstein's are mounted? PSS 9 or HDs?

based on the pic in the ad, HDs

tips are a bit less but I wouldn't call the asking price a "premium" price. Seems like a reasonable starting point for what we know of the car.

He put together a thoughtful ad too. That is a good sign.

I would not go so far as say that Tips are worth less. But the extra $4-$5000 paid for the Tip transmission when the car was purchased New is certainly gone.

I'm not slamming tips. They're great for some. But, the market is smaller for them, and the prices reflect it.

They are slower...Now the PDK is a completely different animal. PDK cars are faster than the 6 speeds, and the technology is very cool.

I would discount a tip from $3K - $5K if I came across one for sale and had some interest...

In our market tipos are worth on average 20-35% less than manuals. 75% of 993s on our roads are Tipo and in hindsite the technology at that time definately ad its limitations (4 speed etc).

Cheers

I would think that the buy price and the sell price are pretty much a wash. The used car with TIP already took the hit from the first owner and when you go to sell you sell for less but also probably bought it for less. Factoring in a clutch/flywheel change and the actual loss between the 2 is a non factor.

looked at the car this am.

Nice but not great. Looks like most of the car was re-painted. the drivers door hinge lock (or what ever you call it) was pulled out and very poorly repaired. Car had other little issues too. Nice but not great.
