Default What's the max spacer I can run?

Seeking rennlist wisdom here. What is the maximum amount of spacer I can run on a narrowbody 993 with the stock 17 inch wheel? The car is lowered to RS +5mm height. How much is can I run before the scrub radius cause problem?

Same question for the rear wheels too.

Don't worry about outside fender rub b/c I am thinking of RSR/GT2 flares.

thanks,
anthony

In regards to rubbing, a lot depends on the tire as well, not just alignment, ride height, and wheel size.

The rule of thumb is that you want the thread of the stud going into the lug nut to be at least as much as the diameter of the stud. I've found that a 6mm spacer covers that well. Anything more and you will need either longer studs, or spacers with studs.

As far as the GT2 flares, I've yet to see a properly done NB conversion. What are your plans?

My car has Bilstein/HR suspension set at just a bit above RS height.

Just thinking about the RSR/GT2 flares. Mashaw/Getty makes a narrow body RSR/GT2 flares that would flare out the front/rear 1.5-2 inches. So I would have to get adapters/spacers to move the wheel out (or get new wheels with the appropriate 1.2-2 inches less offset than the OEM).

5-7mm is okay and I have done it before, but 1-2 inches is another story. I want to make sure the car can still be driven with such a big spacer (or more than likely hub-centric adapters).

5 and 7mm are OEM. (6 not - don't know why) 7mm is the thickest
to use with the original bolts. lugnuts need at least 6.5 rounds iirc

are you asking about spacers that uses factory studs (3-7mm) or hub adaptors that basically has their own studs (1-2 inches)?

Anthony,

You can run whatever size fits - really.

Porsche ran them on Factory 3.3L turbos back in the day.

The load on the wheel bearing will increase - and then wear faster - I would suggest you do not use them on the track - I dont.

BTW - I use them on my GT2 Rep - no issues so far - 50mm and 31mm R and Front.

Simon.

I have the H&R 2" spaces with built in studs on the rear of my Turbo and they work fine. The spacer bolts to the cars hub, then the wheel bults to the spacer. looks stock.

Do you know offhand what are now the effective offsets of your GT3 wheels?!? TIA

David
