My brother wants a '95 993 6-speed (OBD1) and is limiting his purchase price at $30K. Any colour is acceptable.

Since I am not very well educated in 993 pricing I pose the question to you fellows.

What condition would you expect a $30K '95 993 to be in?....Thanks!

Good to Very Good shape.
You might be able to find a top condition 1995 993 for that money.
If you go to Varioram years 1996+ then its more money to find a top example.

2 years ago I bought a one owner '95 with 64k and all maintenance records, good PPI. You should get more car for the $$$ now. Perhaps lower mileage, more mods, more major maintenance. I would plan on spending at least another $2k after purchase for things you'll want to do anyway (maintenance, smaller mods).

You can get a good NB 993 for 30k. Miles will be on the high side, then again these engines are bulletproof. They don't suffer from PMS, ..lol..meant RMS problems..

Congratulate your brother for his good taste in automobiles. A lot depends on where your brother is located and how far he's will to travel to obtain one. Also, the more he looks, the more educated he becomes...but yes, $30k should do it in today's market.

As others have said, $30K should get your brother a quite decent 95 993. As matt777 said, budget for post-purchase spending, I've rarely seen a 993 (any used car for that matter) that didn't need something.

If I was buying, I would just find one with very clean PPI and at least suspension done in a color I liked and would not pay a huge premium for very low miles.

Tell your brother to take his time and be patient if he wants to get the absolute best car for the $$$. 993's are easy to find at $30k, so it's more about getting the right car. I paid $22k for a VERY nice black on black 6 speed 993. There are good deals out there if you look in the right places. Watch out for small dealerships that buy these at auctions, and band-aid issues (not ALL dealers are bad, just most . Rennlist members will help steer you in the right direction when you get closer to pulling the trigger.

You get what you pay for in most instances. Not always, but most of the time. As many stated, expect to put $$ into any purchase. If he doesn't have any spending money at all over $30,000 then he should be looking even lower but then the better 993 examples are taken out of the loop. If he wants an excellent condition low mileage example then he needs to ante up into the mid-30's. The good part about those type cars is that they generally need nothing or very little if documented maintenance is shown to you. Maybe tires or a battery but that is just good for the new owner anyway. I looked for years at prices before finally buying mine in April this year. I almost always found cars for cheap ($20's) needing too much or the mileage too high for my personal liking. I was north of $30k but I haven't needed a thing except tires (my choice) and a $50 air duct that I installed myself. It usually all equals out eventually anyway if you keep the car for years. Buy one for $27,000 and put in a few thousand or buy one for $34,000 and do very little. You do pay for low mileage, no doubt about that, but well maintained high mileage cars can be every bit the equal. Each and every 993 has it's very own life history and it is up to the buyer to figure each one out. If no records, beware!! Good luck!
