Angry 95 993 OBDI or OBDII

Here is one for you. I have a 95 993 VIN 3329 out of 4139 for the year. I have a OBD2 connector by the gear shift ****. Is this OBD1 or OBD2 software connection? OBD2 didn't start til 1996. I have heard that in 1995 some cars had the round connector (passender foot well) and some had the rectangular by gear shift ****.

You have a trapezoidal OBD2 connector in an OBD1 car. I think that only the '94s(there are some '94s relabled by the factory as '95) used the round OBD1 connector as used in the 964s

By the way RoW n/a continued to use OBD1 w/ the OBD2 connector through the end of 993 production

OBD2 diagnostic tools won't work since your car is OBD1. I assume that was the next question.

What would you be looking for on it? Not that I need it now, but I intend to keep my car for the long term.

You can use generic ODBII readings on the ODBI car. Most of the readings will not be available for ODBI. You should be able to read & reset any stored codes.

Hmm. My connector is shaped like a rhombus.

Negative. If it were, you would not be able to orient the OBD connector.

For those of you crazy like me, you can get Bosch KTS500 PCMCI card and the proper ODB cable (the one that comes with the KTS500 has a slightly different pinout, and porsche has other pins connected if I recall correctly). However, I can help with the Porsche factory software (PST2) and you can run this on an older laptop (eg old Pentium II's work fine).

If you want to look for the KTS stuff, ebay.co.uk or ebay.de is a good idea:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Bosch-KTS-500-ISO...item3ca722d942

Its very rewarding to activate the ABS pump when bleeding the brakes. Or helping a friend with a PPI and telling the current owner his SAI code was lit (instant 5k savings off asking price! :-)
