You guys have me a bit worried!
I'm on 54k miles now , and I'm using two thirds of a litre every 1000 miles ..

However , I did get a compression test done last year that showed good consistant results , and my average journey (to and from work..) is 12 miles , about 25-30 minutes , so it's mostly town type driving..

I feel I'll be getting that top end before I hit the magic 100!!

Close, but not at 100k yet. But complete rebuild (top AND bottom) was at 70k. Bent rods - don't ask, I have absolutely no clue.

Bart, dude I appreciate you taking the picture, but I'm shaking my head that you were traveling at between 80 and 100mph when you did it.......

My old '95 had around 100k when I sold it. used about a quart every 3000 miles. The current owner now has 130k and says it uses about the same. Runs great and has been 100% reliable as a daily driver. Never rebuilt.

lol...+1 . i've got 147.500 miles on the clock, and will add a quart at around 2000 miles. as my daily driver, i run the revs consistently above 4200 and change the oil every 3-4k. nothing done to the engine, although i was planning on doing a preemptive rebuild last summer, but economic conditions dictated differently.

116,00 miles. About 2000 miles to the quart. Starting to blow blue smoke at start up. May need valve guides. No noticable performace change since I got it 40,000 miles ago.

No need to worry. Your oil use is very acceptable according to most everyone. Some of these oil consumption numbers are staggering though and you wonder if something is amiss. Even the owner's manual says oil consumption is normal and to check your fluid regularly, not every 3000 miles! I just read it last night as I started to wonder myself after reading all these incredible numbers. Must be nice not to think about it.

Actually I think we are thinking about it, the usage based on 3000 miles is just that. How much oil was added over the course of 3000 miles. Not once every 3000 miles. in my case I'd a 1/3 of a quart every 1000 miles or 1 quart per 3000 miles. Get it>
