Default OT: Messing With a Scammer (UPDATE 12/29 - The *NEW* Check Arrived!)

Check out this email exchange and let me know how I should proceed...

(And yes, I did post the Salad Shooting Spinning Rims for sale check out the link at the bottom)

Hello,

First off, I appreciate your response to my feedback on your ad. I have interest in purchasing the rims. I would have loved to come and pick them up personally but at this point in time, I cannot possibly make any trip as I am looking after a ill son. However, since I have seen its picture on the web and also its state of condition, I think I will be proceeding with this purchase (in good faith).

Cash wouldn't have been a problem if I'm not tied up here but I hope check works fine with you, let me know - once it clears, I will make arrangement for how to have the rims picked up from you. If it (check) work with you, you can forward me the name and address to issue it out to.
Thanks very much and hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,
Sarah.

Hello Seller,

In reference to your on-line placed advert, I will like to know if this set is
still for sale and If it is, is the condition still remain as described in the

The broken english is a dead give away.

How should you proceed? You don't!

I long ago stopped allowing potential buyers to reach me via email when selling on Craigslist. The amount of bogus bull**** email is outrageous. You can opt not to allow email communication, and instead simply post a number for interested parties to call.

If it wasnt for stupid people who trying to attempt this fraud and their idiotic ways of going about it, there would be a lot more fraud. About every fraud attempt on craigslist with my ads, there is some type play emotion--marriage, mission, traveling, ill family member.

I can spot fraud a mile away. I have had at least 25 attempts with my vacation rental business in the past year and they are mostly have 4 things in common---poor english, poor spelling, unlikely events, and too much information.

I sold a car on Craigslist recently and took it one step further. I have vonage for my home telephone service. They allow me to create virtual phone numbers for a couple of bucks a month. I created a virtual number that I published in my CL ad. It rang to my house and cell phone at the same time. Took three months to sell the car on craigslist. I gave the people who bought the car my real # and dumped the virtual number the day after the sale and no more spam callers from craigslist, of which I had quite a few. Was well worth the $~12 or so.

No problems here selling a couple of cars and sometimes show/event tickets on Craigslist. Maybe since Craig started it here there aren't as many problems since it's such a local resource?

And buying, everyone I've dealt with has been straight. 5-6 cars over the past 7-8 years (forget when it was actually started), and lots of tickets and misc. items.

On the positive side of things, sold and bought quite a few things on craigslist---especially baby/kids stuff.

You give them a phone number?
Then they can visit you when they reverse search your phone number.
I protect what little privacy I have left by never giving out my phone numbers to strangers.

Oh, c'mon it's a simple spelling error. They must've been in a hurry. That's probably why they misspelled the currency too
