Default After Market Sparkplug Wires?

Does anyone have any experience with third-party spark plug wires or are OEM the only way to go? I need them right now. Although my car still runs fine, some of the metal strans have popped out from the rubber insulation. After cleaning it and around the area, I covered it with electrial tape as an temporay fix. Also, what's the best way to install those wire?

I have replaced individual wires purchased at a very reasonable price from Mark Robinson [porschesolutions@gmail.com] "no affiliation", and have had no problems.

Do a search, and you will find many references to Mark.

Br. Ken,
I think the general consensus is to go with OE Porsche wires made by Beru. You can purchase individual wires from Sunset if only the lower ones are bad. You may wish to consider making a day of it and removing the intake manifold to gain some much-needed access.

Hell, if you schedule this procedure with my shop, we can go ahead and remove that pesky SAI system.......

Mark's wires are same are Beru, same as OEM just red in color. I don't know if he sells individual wires however.

In the broader picture my concern with buying wires only is that you still need to change the plugs and that negates any savings. Plugs fail almost at the same rate as the wires so changing the wires and not the plugs is not the answer.

if you are doing a complete replacement, OE Beru wires are available already strung in their looms and ready to install.

Porsche only sells the individual wires and does no carry the packaged, "pre-strung" Beru set.

Now you know Big A, it doesn't take much of an excuse for me to schedule an in-shop professionalized custom care maintenance get-together at your garage. Sounds like a total winner only if you’ll allow me to buy the brewskies and pizza. Got to think about the SAI system though. Nonetheless, I just want hookup with the MD/PA Porsche gang again.

Reading many of the past posts, I've never read any negative comments about Mark's ignition wires. They all have been positive. So, maybe I'll take a chance on a set. Also, I would love to change those plugs, 120k miles on that set, but I am deathly afraid of stripping those threads.

Thanks Mark, so far so good.

Thanks everyone; great advice as always.

Br. Ken,
Walk in the park. Cactus and I started on his shortly after midnight, after an evening that involved the picture below. I think we finished around 4:30 am...

I need a midnight session with my brakes - seems the only time I can get away from other responsibilities!

No freaking way. That has to be at least a case or more. And you guys still finished the car before passing out that morning? Darn, I'm impressed. Ok, what kind of plugs do I need to order? I'll get started buying the wires today. I also need to clean that engine before I see the GQs (i.e. garage queens). Hopefully I won't be embarrassed to much. The valve covers are leaking like no tomorrow. So, where can I pickup some of that Xennit (SP) or whatever it's called solvent cleaner?

The Magnecor wires are high quality, no-BS wires. Ends are bonded on. Had a set on my 931 but have not purchased for 993. Price is competitive with stock but I don't know what sizes they sell (wire diameters) - you'd have to squish them into the existing holders.

Anybody ever use Bosch wires? I've got a set in the garage but I've never heard reference to them before.
