Good luck with your search and I second Chuck and beers' comments. There's just something about 993s...

Like I said, it a long shot of finding the right owner of a C2S/C4S and the right situation.
The E63 is 507 hp but less torque ("only" 469 ft lbs) due to using the new 7-speed transmission (but slightly better gas mileage.) And it's actually slightly (1/10th) quicker off the line than the E55. The E55 gets a lot of heat soak eventually; the E63 is a NA motor. But the E55 with its FI motor is much more easily modded and you can turn it into a true rocket ship that will obliterate the E63 and most other cars for sure.

That said, AMGs drop in value like a cement overcoat in the East River. You either buy them used (CPO'd w/warranty) or keep them for a long time. I think the big issue you're up against is that the 993 is a much better value (monetarily speaking) in that respect.

Also without a warranty, the E55 can eat you alive (airmatic suspension, IC pump, etc..)

The AMG is a nice cruiser/luxury car that goes like snot. But with the E63 also depreciating (and there is now the 2010 W212 E63 available beginning this month), the older E55 is going to be a tough car to trade, imho. The later E63's don't have the FI motor but do have nice changes in the COMAND system, transmission, and suspension, plus the E63 is much more well mannered on the streets than the E55 (and quieter w/o the supercharger whine.)

If you can swing it, keep the AMG as a daily cruiser and pick up a nice 993 as your weekender.

Good luck. Maybe you can make a trade or at least add it as part of the 993's cost.

But I'd sell it by itself instead, if I were you.

ps, unfortunately the MSRP on the AMG is meaningless. Think 996

So what if the e55 can beat a 993 in a 1/4 run. Take it on the twisties and see who has the car you would want, add that to the value and looks of a 993 widebody. Or stick to the 1/4 dragstrip in your family sedan.
Mercedes makes very nice engines, but looks are debatable. You've got a nice car, but you know you would rather be in a hand built Porsche, designed for racing and enjoyment !

well said. I don't think many on this board care that the AMG is exponential faster than the 993. Most modern Mercs are faster 0-60 than a 993.
And many 993 owners own 4 door sedans, trucks, or other coupes that are faster than their 993 anyway.

Why do people say, "No offense" and then proceed to do just that in one sentence?

I tried but I don't have his contact information. Is there an area where I can do a member's ID lookup? Sorry, for the amateur question.

Mr red96M3... I like your style and the tone of your responses. I've learned an awful lot about 2005 E55's in this post. We test drove one for my wife 2 years ago. I fell hard for this car and so did my wife, till she found out how awful it would be in the winter in the snow and ice. Her new car was to be used to get to the ski slopes in the winter as well as an all around town car the rest of the seasons. She perceived, correctly I guess, that the E55 would be terrible in the snow so she was all of a sudden dead set against it. I was crestfallen.

In the end, she got a new Acura RL and couldn't be happier. No maintenance repairs for 8 years with our extended warranty, no hassles at all, so far. And AWD to get her anywhere in the winter without a problem.

Good luck selling your E55. As everyone else says, just stick it on Ebay or cars.com and autotrader and it'll be sold soon at the right price. People adore your car. Then search hard for another 993. It's great to know you used to have one, so you'll know precisely what to look for. I love to hear buyers that used to have one, sold it, went some years without one and were drawn back to the fold.

Lastly, some minivans beat my car off the starting line at stop lights so 0-60 times in my 993 are unimportant to me. I love the way it looks and drives. Did I happen to mention how much I love the way 993's look? Drop dead gorgeous when they're all cleaned up.

Have fun shopping!

Very true, an E55 would not be the greatest in the snow, but one time I was caught in the snow, and all I can think is, "please God, get me and my car back home in one-piece"! My second concern was, my car was going to be a snow plow for the neighbors, but the car had a suspension height adjustment button, one push and the car's suspension went up and my front lower bumper was saved!

One thing I haven't researched, but how is the C4S is the snow or ice/wet condition? I figured the low height will be a problem in the snow and the guard bar probably couldn't save the lower part of the bumper.

ps, don't take what I said about AMGs personally at all. Facts are facts.
I own a 2009 E63

Check the current auction (Manheim) prices for the E55s and put it in Autotrader. It'll sell.

Working with cash on a 993 will put you in a better position, imho.

Very true. "Cash talks"! I figured the more avenue of advertisement, perhaps the better the chances I have selling my E55 and buying a Porsche. I know it is a long shot, but what the heck. THE BIGGEST ADVANTAGE FOR BOTH PARTY IS THE SALES TAX ADVANTAGE (AT LEAST FOR WASHINGTON STATE ANYWAY).

I have advertised on Craigslist, Autotrader, eBay and a couple of MB forums.

I guess I am getting a little impatience. I should wait until the "right" 993 comes along.

My dream build:
1998 C4S with an aero kit, sport seats, carbon fiber parts, colored seat belts and rare sample color.

Shopping in a used car market, beggars can't be chosers!
