Default Anybody have their sport seats re-upholstered?

I'm just wondering if it's an option down the road. Doesn't seem to me that it would be all that difficult.. Considering of course all of us with sport seats have that annoying thing where the leather clips need to be reinserted..

So can that whole section just be taken apart, re-upholstered and re-installed?

Thoughts?

www.gahh.com I have ordered 2 sets of covers from them for the sport seats. Good quality and I had them installed by a professional upholstery shop.

also if you want to see something amazing and a lot cheaper go to the 964 forum and there is before and after pics of someone there that redyed and fixed teh cracking etc. He actually did his whole interior. The before and after are amazing.

Just a thought and way to save money.

You can also get a good upholstery shop to match and do specific panels. I had typical wear on the driver's side bolster on the seat bottom and the seat back. They matched the leather just about perfectly, and I think it cost me about $250. The re-dye can be an option as well, it depends on how deep the cracks in the leather are. If they are substantial, the re-dye might not hold up as well as you would like.

One last point, I had a cashmere interior. It took the shop a couple of tries to get the right shade from their supplier, even with the Porsche supplied codes. I had a good relationship with them, and had the seat out of the car, so I did not mind the wait. (I did not have to pay for the wrong leather, they were able to send it back). I guess the point is do some research, look at references in the shop, and see what else they work on. In Dallas, I used Tin Lizzie Affair, and they have done everything from my old TR6, to Hot Rods and vintage Ferrari's. Sometimes the research and the journey can be the fun part, Good Luck!

BG did you see the pics of the redye job. He had some major cracking in those seats. They make a crack filler. I am not sure how long it would last but looks like it should for a long time.

Swapping out specific panels is one thing and leather is pretty durable. I'm wondering if the "foam" underneath making up the structure of the seat is going to have to be replaced somewhere down the road...? Or does it hold up? That would be a substantial amount of work..

From their drop down menu, they don't appear to do 993.

Yes... And....

Yes.

To be honest, not afraid of the work.. Afraid of the results that my unskilled hands would produce..
There is not a second of doubt in my mind that I'd screw up something big in that process.

Maybe I'll just get one of those sheep hair, seat covers

Just kidding, my seats aren't all that bad.. I'd say they're exactly what you would expect on a low mileage 1997 car.

On the crack filler/re-dye, you can DIY. The outcome depends on a number of factors, and there is a little bit of "acquired" skill to do this. I have a good buddy who did some of this reconditioning for dealers as a side business. The outcome really depends on prep, patience, and skill. Since the cracks are deep, you may want to see about having it done, so you get the outcome you'll be happy with. One other point, most of the guys who are good at this actually match their own colors. I could not do it. My buddy had an unbelievable eye to get the shade just right....
