Purchasing 993 in Seattle
#16
Xing,
Since purchasing last year from a local (Seattle) Rennlister, I am not driving as much as I would have liked and will be offering up for sale. Not garage queen but, mint daily driver. Nicely optioned. Quick details:
95 C2
Polar Silver / Black full leather, heated seats
101,6xx miles
18" Porsche Special Program Twist Wheels
Turbo suspension w/PSS9
HID's
RSR mufflers

I know 100k mi is not "high", but I am more looking for a lower mi 993. Thanks for the info and good luck with your sale.

I too bought mine from a fellow Rennlister without a visit or drive and could not be happier with the purchase decision.
This sites for sale section is a good place to start.
It is a great time to buy since the market appears to be flooded with undervalued 993's.
Happy hunting!

96 993 C4S, 38k mi, GRed, stock with typical options @ Park Place
$52k asking price
http://www.parkplaceltd.com/inventor...rent=1&size=50
What is a reasonable price for a such car?
97 993 C4S, 66k mi, Black, stock with typical options @ Park Place
$44k asking price
http://www.parkplaceltd.com/inventor...rent=1&size=50
More reasonable pricing for PP car?
Both cars looked very clean from outside. Don't really want to deal with PP, but they seem to carry nice examples around.

SF CL 993 for $41k: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/1393505584.html
Posting description:
"Parting with my 1996 C4S. 25,600 miles, perfect condition. Tuned and track ready. Serious inquires only. Second owner, no damage, excellent car. Arena red (burgundy) with black leather. Aluminum instrument dials and litronic headlights."
No photos and no response from the seller yet.
If it is really a "perfect condition" 25k C4S and PPI checks out, isn't 41k a very reasonable offering price for a buyer? Does anyone know this arena red 96 C4S in SF, CA? Thanks.

Xing, It sounds like you want a fairly original car. You really need to do more research on your car candidates, like examining or getting the option codes on the factory sticker under the front hood as this sticker lists all of the factory added options on the car. This sticker is printed twice, one label stays stuck there and the other one is removed and stuck to the owner's manual by the dealership at delivery to the customer. From there you can determine where the car has been modified and decide for yourself if these changes are acceptable or if they are reversible.
I looked for over a year for a completely stock example and finally bought my car from a fellow Rennlister in DFW.

I was @ PP yesterday, & the red C4S is really, really nice! But doesn't have a ton of options. They also had a nice black one out side. Just have the cars checked with a PPI, when I was looking, PP was the place to find them, but the ones I had checked out, were not worth the asking price.
There is another place in Seattle called Munic Evo, he has had a few nice 993's
http://www.munichevo.com/
Also don't forget the local PCA

if you got any questions, or need any help on what to look for let me know, I'd be happy to help you out.

I think he does a lot of consignments, so that may account for some of that.
I had to ship my car in from Illinois when I bought. There just wasn't anything decent available around here. There are more 993's around than 964's, but demand here still far outstrips the supply of good cars. That's how these dealers get away with asking what they do.

Xing,
These rennlist connections will be a tremendous help in your search which is something I wish I had known about during my search. Harlan makes some great points about understanding the options and there are some personal preferences that you will need make decisions on. As a result, he ended up with a beautiful 993. Had I known all of this, I might have had a chance to buy pristine Red 993 which was about 3 miles from where I live. Instead, I looked for 16 months, but still found a garage queen (98 C4s with 17K miles) and I am happy. The rennlisters are great people and have a strong passion for the 993. Good luck with your search.

Jackson911,
Completely agree and thanks to all rennlisters here for your advice. Hope to join you all soon and be able to participate more in the near future.

I was the red one also at Park Place. $50K+ is a lot for that car. I would think they would sell it if you offered $47-$48K for it. I think that more reasonable. Good luck on your search!
