About to buy new tires: Question about Sumitomos...

I'm just about to buy a new set of tires for my 993 and I'm on the fence about the Sumitomo HTR Z III. I've read great things about them and how they compare favorably to the PS2, but I've also read that they are prone to flat-spotting. Since I only drive my car once or twice a week, it can sit for several days in the garage. Is flat-spotting really an issue with the Sumis and, if so, should they be avoided if the car isn't driven daily?

I have P-Zero Rosso (sp.) and as soon as they wear out it is Sumi time. I have run them on almost every P-car I have owned. Never had the flat spot issue and they sat for a few weeks at a time. Others may have different opinions or views, but a great tire at a great price.

I drive my car once a week, and I do notice a slight vibration when the tires are cold - goes away quickly after driving for a few minutes. Otherwise quite happy with the Sumis.

My 993 sometimes sits for a couple of weeks at a time (I know, I know
) Like Mike above, I will occasionally get a very slight vibration that goes away after a couple of miles - but that happens with most any brand. So I don't think Sumi's are any better/worse in that regard.

i agree with the two posts above.......if my car sits for about a week, there is a slight vibration. it typically works itself out after a mile...usually before i leave the subdivision. i never thought it was abnormal seeing how the car was sitting for at least a couple days.

A couple of times, I've been out of the country for work and my car sat in the garage for a month, even two months, at a time, and I've never had flat-spotting. Don't know where you're hearing that that's a problem.
That said, I burned through my rears in only 8K miles, as opposed to about 13K for the previous set, which were HTR Z II's. Pretty disappointed.

I've had mine about a month and no issues. The seemed a little week the first 50 miles or so, after that they have been great. Like you, my car sits for extended periods of time, especially with all the rain here this summer. They sat for 2 weeks after installing and didn't notice much more than a little vibration when I first hit the highway, like others said, that went away. My bridgestones did the same thing

I have apx 8K miles on my Summi's and have only good things to say about them. I have occasionally noticed a slight flat spot vibration but it quickly goes away as others have said. These tires are MUCH better than the Pirelli P-zero's they replaced, especially at auto cross events. I would estimate I should get another 5-8K miles easy on the rears at the current rate of wear.

I hope they don't flat spot. I have 4 sitting in my family room waiting to go on. Bridgestone S02a's priced themselves out of the market.
