That said, I burned through my rears in only 8K miles, as opposed to about 13K for the previous set, which were HTR Z II's. Pretty disappointed.
Just think, one man's disappointment is another man's dream!

Kidding aside, did you wear them out evenly, or on the insides? Just street driving or track as well?

Alignment is the biggest determinent of tire wear by far. If they handle well, and wear evenly, then at 8K+ I'd be happy.

They wore evenly, and no track use -- actually, mostly highway. Not sure why they wore so much more quickly than the previous set.

I was running the old style Sumi's on my 993, and just went to the III's - I really like them, and my car does sit from time to time as well. so far no issues with the previous sets or the new ones.

Is there any performance difference between the Sumitomo Z's, Z II's and the Z III's? The ZII's have a more agressive looking tread pattern, but the UTQC rating is higher (360 for the III's, 300 for the II's and 160 for the Z's). I am assuming this is due to progessively softer tread compounds. Is the performance difference worth cutting your life expectancy in half?
As a sort of unrelated question, does anyone have any experience with the BFGoodrich G-Force Sport series? I used to run those on my Mustangs and was happy with them, but I have NO experience with different tires on my Porsche yet.
