Default KN filter

Did anyone do this mod?

http://p-car.com/diy/conefilter/

And would it still worth doing if I have the Fister Stage II Exhaust Mod?

I assume both mods are for for sound purposes and not performance

If the increased intake roar is what you are after, simply cut two big box holes into the intake cover (or some "swiss cheese" it with large holes but I think the box openings look better ). It's easier, free, and you achieve the exact same results. Not to mention you get to keep the stock air filter which, IMHO, is the much better option to the K&N. Oh, and the filter is also then not exposed to rain.

Just drill out your airbox cover, as Edward noted above. I used a 1/2" drill bit and drilled about a dozen holes in mine.

Whatever you do, keep the mesh screens on both sides of the MAF sensor. What these screens do, they make the air flow laminar rather than turbulent (you have the same type mesh screen on all your home sink faucets, for the same reason. Take it off and see the difference...). With a laminar air flow over the MAF sensor, the sensor will measure the flow more accurately, and thus give a more accurate fuel to air ratio, increasing the efficiency of the engine. Downstream of the MAF sensor there is one more screen, before the rubber bend into the manifold. The laminar flow also creates less pressure drop in the intake system than turbulent flow.

Mine came with the cone filter installed. I've driven it twelve thousand miles with no problems. Nice growl.

My car came with a K&N and I just did a cleaning on it. I'd recommend staying with the normal filters...the cleaning process is a PITA. After washing it clean, you have to wait for it to air dry, THEN re-oil it. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I'd rather spend that time driving..or playing guitar, or 100 other things. I'll swap back to the normal filters after my K&N cleaning kit runs out.

I think drilling holes is the way to go.... but then again I have the Fister II... I even made a point and drove to work to terrorize NYC streets today...

I bought a second airbox cover for $25 and simply cut most of the side of it off so that is is essentially a retaining ring for the filter. I used a jig saw and neatly cut it and sanded down the edges for a professional look. The induction roar that I get in the car is awesome. I'll take some pics when my camera gets back from Germay this weekend. I left my original Motorsound airbox cover unmolested for future reference.
