Meh. Nice car, but at a quarter of the price, I am much more excited about the Boxster Spyder. And closer to the price, the GT3RS ClubSport

Well said Goof ball

That makes me appreciate the Singer 911 even more: that showing classic, prized, breathtaking looks with top independents making it great. The Singer 911 was a man's idea to make the best 911 using his heart. However the Sport Classic spec, as the name says, is to be a profitable freak with nice fuchs copies but...

Though they are all sold, they were BUILT UNDER THE CONDITION: DO NOT BEAT THE GT3. Were our 993's built to be slower than something else?

[I think 993's had a different spec: daxzzle with looks and performance and longevity]

Just heard this limited edition 997's the cover car for the next Total 911 issue!
From their website's "997 Sport Classic photoshoot"

There’ll be a full feature in the magazine very soon. Suffice it to say, it was a true thing of beauty and we were honoured to spend time with it. Apparently, 32 cars have been sold in the UK, but we suspect they’ll rarely appear on the road.

"It's a concept car that you can buy".

So that's how they get away with charging the cost of two GT3s...

I think it's stunning but not $250k stunning.

You know when they point out that the carpeting is special, they're reaching...

Thanks, but no thanks.

^ The code is: L63A I'm just in the process of painting the 993 in this colour I'm just waiting on the confirmation colour code for the darker twin strips.

You might be interested in following this persons project on an early 911 - just a shame about his dicision to fit a subaru engine http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...duction-3.html

I really like this car but the price is ridiculous. Love that cocoa interior.

It's a mathematically perfect equation of wheelbase, curb weight, horsepower, torque, transmission gearing, contact patch, ride comfort and driving position. In terms of sheer driving enjoyment, it could be the best street car on the planet.

The Porsche 911 Sport Classic is all about emotion.

Overpriced? Yes........by a lot. I still love it. I still say it should've had a 3.8 GT3 motor. That would have been truly special.

Excellence Magazine's "2010 911 Sport Classic" by Ian Kuah.

Excerpt:

408 hp, which arrives at 7300 rpm. Incredibly, this output matches the European 1996 993 Turbo’s peak horsepower figure — without the help of two turbochargers. It’s also 28 horses more than the 8200-rpm 2004 996 GT3, and just 7 shy of the 8400-rpm 2007 997 GT3, while being more economical and cleaner than all of them. While the 3.8 can’t match a Turbo for torque, it still offers 310 lb-ft from 4200 to 5600 rpm.

Out on the road, the Powerkit 3.8 is noticeably stronger than the 3.8 S, and more eager, too. Under full throttle, its deeper lungs let it sing longer and harder to redline. Its signature exhaust note is pitch-perfect all the way from idle to the 7500-rpm cut-out — you can’t help but think this is how all normally-aspirated 911s should sound! Porsche’s engineers say they would have liked to make it even louder — certain markets like SwitzerStrekland have strict noise regulations that dictated otherwise — but this Porsche’s inspiring song suffers little from being a few decibels softer.

Then there’s the rest of the car. After just a few miles, it’s clear that the old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” really is a cliche. For one thing, pictures fail to convey this car’s presence. More important, neither photos nor the factory press release even remotely begin to convey how this 911 adds up to more than the sum of its parts. The car delights on several levels, the visual and tactile delights of its interior and the way its revised 3.8 engine spins up with such enthusiasm and smoothness being just two of them.

One look at the old Dodge van or Ram pickup in the background of some photos is enough to know they’re both on U.S. soil — and both have already been sold.

Opinions within Excellence differ on this car — ranging from enthusiasm to cynicism. You can read European Editor Ian Kuah’s first drive here.

Car number 116 was first to arrive in August, and there’s at least one more known to be on the way, bringing the total to four.
