993 Parts/Labor - fair price ??
Here's the scenario; just had this work performed on my '97 C2S:
- replace all 3 belts, AC, alternator and another (difficulty removing pully due to it being stuck - needed to lube/heat to remove)
- replace front brake pads
- remove & machine front rotors
- put it all back together, of course
- no work on rear brakes
- road test and bed-in the pads
Other than the fan pully being stuck, no other difficulty with any components, i.e. a normal front brake pad R&R, and front rotor machining. I don'thave specific hours spent on this work, but the car was ready in something less than 8 hrs.
I don't want to bias anyone with their answer/opinion/estimate, so I won't disclose what this work cost yet. Please give me your thoughts on what this work should typically cost at a reputable, high end independent Porsche-only facility.
Thanks.

This is a wild guess as prices for labor vary from one part of the country to another. Labor - $900; parts - $400. Gotta add tax, shop supplies and other misc. also. Total bill - $1450.

I'm concerned already about the front rotors. I've not heard of any reputable shop that will machine rotors on a 993. Something about the holes being cast into the rotor, not drilled, and machining can cause bad things to happen.
So that being said, you got ripped off if you paid them anything for that.

My top-notch indy charges $100ish per hour (maybe it's $90), but may sometimes use the guidelines for labor time published by Porsche.
In any event, if less than 8 hours was spent soup to nuts on your car, the labor charge should be under $900.
The PO of my car made the cardinal mistake of not getting an estimate for a bunch of punchlist items we agreed he would pay for prior to title changing hands. This was with a different indy than my current guy, and needless to say the bill was astronomical. It was so bad that he almost didn't sell the car to me because the service bill was almost 15% of our agreed upon sales price and he wanted to find a better (higher) buyer.

Thanks for the replys. My parts were approx. $250 and labor was approx. $550. It seems like a reasonable price for the work performed. The shop has always done excellent work and are extremely detail oriented (plus I tend to "over-maintain" my cars anyway).
Thanks again for the input.
Cheers.
