Default How Long do Front Rotors Last (for goodness sake)?

I just bought two new front rotors about six months ago and I think one of them is warped already. I believe I have less then 5/7K miles on them with normal daily driving. I feel vibration on the steering wheel at high speeds when depressing the brake. I haven't tested it with a run out gauge yet, but will this weekend. Any ideas?

I changed my original front rotors on mine at 78k miles, You might want to look at your wheel bearings.

I doubt you warped your rotors, especially just driving on the street. I haven't warped rotors yet running hard on the track with Hawk HT-10 pads. I've cracked them pretty good, but not warped them. You probably just have some pad transfer you need to burn off of the rotor. A couple of good 60-5 mph stops should help with that.

Here's another thing, did you change the pads when you did the rotors or rotors only? The pads may not be bedded correctly, also when the pads were installed did you use pad dampers between the pads and pistons?

did you change the rotors yourself?
If so, did you well prepare the surface of the hubs before bolting the rotors on them?
last question, do they vibrate since instalation or lately at 6k?

Also, I too agree that these things rarely warp -- uneven pad deposition is usually the culprit. If not, check your wheel bearings.

Sounds good, but what's the best way of checking them?

Yep, changed the pads at the same time and I used dampers too. They were running fine until a couple of days ago.

Yep and I cleaned the surfaces before reasembly. No vibration after the install. This only started a couple of days ago.

Purely Porsche Big A. Sunset Porsche parts all the way.

Ok, I'll power wash the holes in the rotors.

I'll check that too.

Thanks everyone, I'll report my findings soon.

My orignaly rotors lasted to 90k miles. Did you happen to spray water into the rotors when they were hot? Like washing your car right after you drove it?

I would check tire pressure first, only a couple of PSI of can cause shimmy. Warped rotors usually only shimmy under breaking, not driving. Next I would reballance the wheels. You may have knocked off a wheel weight when you did the brakes.

Nope, never did that.

Got them from Sunset Porsche. So, I'm pretty sure they're OEM.

Sounds like a good bet to me. I'll check 1st thing.
