I just got back from a business trip to Germany, and took a day off to drive down to Zuffenhausen to visit the Porsche Museum. After spending several hours admiring the great collection, I noticed a 993 Speedster being worked on in the restoration workshop. I presume this was Ferry's 993?
Enjoy the pictures that I took through the glass...
And if you like 911 Speedsters, they had an 89 in red sitting out in front of the museum, and a nice 964 variant on display within the museum...

WOOT!!!
I hope it's on display in the museum as soon as the clean-up's done.![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)
Any more details/ photos? More angles would aid confirmation as Butzi Porsche's 1995 birthday gift. If it's a Tiptronic, that's a strong indicator. Did you ask anyone there for more information? Please PM me if higher-resolution orginals are available.
Regardless: Thank you thank you thank you!
PS I gotsta go buy tickets to Z-hausen quick! Wait, I already got off for Keystone & a week+ at Monterey. Maybe I'll just give up employment to live in the Porsche museum?
...wish the Porsche family had coordinated schedules with me before this resto.

From PStraub's April thread "New Museum, Factory Tour & Weissach"
Surprised?
Surprised?
Porsche family-owned vehicles displayed?
Might they ever have a 993 Speedster on exhibit? If I haven't already made it to the museum by then, the day I hear one of those is on show is the moment I'll be back in Germany.
I loved Rhonda's Porsche Museum Zuffenhausen Pictures..., but was surprised at the conspicuous lack of 993s. A museum without art?! (Admittedly biased.)

Hmm. Maybe they're getting ready to announce the new "Special" car they told me they would launch at the end of the year when I was there last May. I thought at the time it could be a new Speedster variant. I'll be back there September 15th and 16th, maybe I'll be lucky enough to see Butzi's car ....

Mobile.de had another for sale this past March. More info & photos on the "Speedster type 993 photo thread," top of page four, & all of page 16.
Featured in JJJMCD's 2007 RL thread "993 Speedster Pictures." Sold Sep 2007. Asking price was 81.558 GBP, ~$133k USD.
Currently, if you click on this specific link, freisinger-motorsport.de/porsche/?lang=uk&site=carsforsaledetail&car_id=53, you should initially see browser page title as "Porsche 993 Speedster." Likewise, as of this moment, its navigation panel at the top left says "FREISINGER > Cars for Sale > Porsche 993 Speedster." However, it quickly refreshes to show current inventory -- it sold. I think its asking price was 95.200.

Ted-- It would have to be done right. IMHO, lots of mixed emotions with how the Speedster's light-weight, stripped, simplified, convertible RS-like concept contradicts virtually every Porsche since ~1999, especially those with automated tops.
As for marketing & the all-important Euro, most would say the Boxster fills the potential Speedster sales void in the company's line-up. The factory even sells Speedster humps for it.
It's a complex issue with modern regulations, etc., I'm NOT saying the factory's necessarily in the wrong.
However, it clashes with their current production trends & mentality of Cayennes & Panameras.
Regardless, I'm optimistic they can pull off a 997.5+ Speedster, but repeating caveat: it would have to be done right.
David in LA said it well. From the "SPY SHOTS: Boxster SPEEDSTER" thread...
The photos on that thread illustrate why caution's required to temper the pure optimism I often have for 993+ Speedsters...

"Special" means this to the factory so far. Cautious optimism...

Regardng Freisinger 993 conversions:
I don't think a single reference to any Speedster photos remains on their company's site, but this archived image still exists on their web domain...
