Default 993 Speedster Pictures

I know that these are supposed to not exist, but this one looks like the genuine article:

http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/find...lCarID=1750718

The ad translates as follows (using Babelfish):

Unique special production! - PSS9 chassis of Bilstein, - 3.8 ltr work kit engine with 300 HP, - check differential, - double Airbag, - GT3 of leather seats, - xenon headlight, - climate, - el. Window lifter & mirror.

Man, I thought I was done with my car!!! Where can I get that hard boot, top, and windshield? I want that look!

I am actually interested to know how that clam shell works with the cab top. It has to open both ways in order to allow the roof to close in the back. If that would work with the oem cab top, I would consider getting it. I don't think it would though because the rear is where the top attatches to the car.

Either way, that car looks sick!

Remeber how the hood opened on a 3.0 CSI or a 2002 BMW. The front went up a bit and then it tilted. The bubble does a similar thing. The back pops up close to 6 inches IIRC and then it tilts back. The 79-91 SL top openes simipar to this one. Back comes up to vertical, cover goes up top get stored.

By the way, this one looks made. An original would not have GT3 seats, a 996 wheel and S tach. And the price is no where near enough for a real car. Just my oppinion. Oh yeah were the speedsters not supposed to be vario cars. This is a non vario.

I would agree...a bit bastardized with the Targo wheels, Big Reds, etc....but still a good looking car IMHO

Beautiful car no doubt - but a bastard child for sure.

That engine is not a varioram? They say it is a 3.8ltr. It looks like a 1995 motor that mayb they re-canned? It's neat looking but, I wonder what year it actually is...

It is an interesting collection of parts -- "S" tach, "S" split-grill, Targa wheels, more modern steering wheel, GT3 seats that appear to be much newer than the Recaros would have been fitted in 1995-1998, all of which indicate that it's a tuner special and not a factory car. However, it does appear to have been done to a very high standard and the conversion involves a not inconsiderable amount of work, including changing the windshield, changing the doors to remove the quarter windows, changing the inner door panels to the speedster style panels, and adding the clamshell and the speedster top. Also, the pricing of 64,000 British pounds indicates that it could be a factory car.

Responding to the Jeff's question, you can't use a regular 911 convertible top with a speedster clamshell. The regular 911 convertible top is permanently fastened around the entire base of the top to the tub. The speedster top is only permanently fastened to the tub on the sides and then the rear is tightened via two straps that run from the bottom of the convertible top below the rear window, between the tub and the clamshell, and to some anchors where the rear seats are in a regular 911 cab. In addition, the top is affixed with tanax fasteners, like those on the convertible boot for a regular 911 cab. Look closely at page 3 on this document: http://www.canepa.com/inventory/exot..._speedster.pdf
