A notoriously difficult color to match on a partial re-paint. yes, I've spent 2 years of my young life doing color science

You're not kidding about a partial repaint, Nile. As you can see in the the pic, there's a part of the front bumper that is no longer flush and she's going into a body shop for that repair when she comes out of deep freeze in the spring.
Fortunately, the paint is good but I've had it in with a dealer, a local PCar garage and a specialty shop (for a potential front end wrap) who all sucked in their teeth when I even brought up the possibility of ever doing a respray for any part.
I mostly got back, "Yeah, good luck with that". I stopped bringing up "touch up paint" in conversations after several looks of sadness mixed w/ disbelief.

The issue with pearl paint is that it's extremely reflective and actually reflect differently than regular paint, i.e. more directionally. The first common production pearl cars, I believe Audi 5000 of 1983, or so, were a complete nightmare to touch up.
Human eye is such a weird tool... I used to make spectrophotometers for color matching for Sherwin Williams and learned how non-linear and illogical the eye really is compared to sensors. But even having said that, I really like pearl white cars.

I mean, all of this is similar to robotics (another industry I've spent time in as an engineer). Robotic arms are great, but none of them have dexterity of a simple human arm.
