Hi,
I had an old tired 911 a few years ago and loved it, but wasn't the right car for the long term. Now I'm in the hunt for a semi-daily driver and started my search for an 87-89. I've spent some time over on the 911 board and a few suggested that I widen my search to include 993's because of the AC (I live in Atlanta) and they just seem to like the 993's. So, here I am. Done a bit of searching so I know some of the basics. I'll put about 7-8k miles a year on the car, and would like as reliable as possible, any suggestions on what to look for and run from?
Let's say I have a budget of around $30k... what should I expect to pick up in this market?
Looks like a great forum and I am really looking forward to joining you and having a pic to post one day!
Thanks,
Steen

You gonna track it? Want a convertible?
As with any expensive car, look for good records. The only "weak point" is valve guide wear. See if you can get documented oil usage. Look for expensive repairs to see if they have been done (clutch, steering rack, ?)

I most likely won't track it. Would like a cab or Targa, but Cab would be first choice. Color is not so important.
So, look for Valve guide work, clutch and steering rack. What's a mileage that those things would start to show? Would I be better off finding one with higher miles with that stuff done?
The $30k would be upper limit. Looks like a lot of cars listed for high $20's with 50k - 70k miles.
Also looks like very few of them are here in Atl... not a big fan of buying sight unseen but guess with a good PPI that might be OK.
Thanks all.

I'd recommend expanding your search on a car like this. Gives you more choices...
I wouldn't rule out flying to drive it back.
find candidate
talk to seller
ask a local RLer to take a quick look at it
neg. a deal, pending PPI
schedule PPI (incl. leakdown test)
close deal
fly to it, drive it back

Thanks Mark,
Certainly won't rule out flying in to pick up a car. Might be a long drive from cali which seems to be where most of these cars are...
but a couple days in a P wouldn't be so bad. Actually did that with my first car and had a blast.

Hi Steen,
I'm local and my '95 993 is for sale. Its not a targa/cab though, but it is a well maintained driver: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=19589
More pics here: http://www.grantfreemanllc.com/993forsale-1/
Thanks,
Stacy

Not sure why, or if still, but when I was looking for a Targa/Coupe this spring I was finding Cabs at about a 5 to 1 ratio here in the Chicagoland area. if you see one out here you might like I'd be willing to take a look at it & take some detailed pictures for you. Also I noticed that the Tampa FL. & Miami FL. Area seem to have allot of cabs. Took me several months to find it but I picked out a former Garage Queen for my first P-car. ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

White Cab, 95 with 88k miles. New Clutch and top. Says the valve guide issue was dealt with (asking for documentation). Looks very nice, has no problem with a PPI. Asking $26k.
Seems like a decent deal?
How much is there to the 95 vs. 96-98 diagnostic issue? (I read that 95's are prefered)

Well, I'm in for a full PPI on this one... being done tomorrow. Price is now $24k.
Sure hope it comes through clean. Exactly what I was looking for and much less than I thought I'd be having to spend.

be nice to see another 993 hitting the Alpharetta area. I am over on the Crabapple side of town. If you see a Arena Red C2 drive by wave hello
good luck on the PPI
