What's more fun than getting your first 993?
Helping your family/friends/neighbors get theirs! I was finishing off some yard work this afternoon and struck up a conversation with my neighbor from across the street. Turns out he's been checking out the 993s that frequent my driveway/garage, both mine and the many brought by friends over the last few years. He said the CFO/wife told him to get one for his 50th. Well he's only 45 but convinced her there was no need to wait...........smart man!
I'll be honest, I think I actually get more enthusiastic helping someone else shop for a P-car (or wheels, Mike :-) ) than looking for myself. Easier to spend someone else's money I guess. I also find it easier to be truly objective about a particular car's pros and cons.
The hard part will be containing the enthusiasm/illness around his wife..........the sickness only starts with the purchase of the car. Then there's the fun stuff: suspension upgrades, wheels & tires, LWF/RS clutch, obsessive cleaning, and, of course, the increased consumption of beer while tinkering with the car and chatting with all your newfound, similarily-afflicted friends!

My drinking club has a Porsche problem
Your neighbor doesn't realize how fortunate he is to live near the Rennlist Car Czar.
His wife doesn't realize she'll soon lose her husband's soul to 993s & your influence ... that's what friends are for!
P.S. Greetings from Monterey: many beers & Porsches for sale.

The 993 was one of the most things I have ever bought. There is something about this chassis that brings out people to talk to you. Something about the chassis that makes the car fun to drive. Too many things that really aren't that normal to have in a car. The best part is the look on a non car person's face when you tell them the car is not a newer car. All at the same time you don't look like a ***** while talking about your car. I am taking a good educated assumption on that last sentence.

Update: car found, PPI'd, and purchased!! Exact details on the car to follow. Neighbor John is flying to SoCal Saturday morning to take delivery and then drive it home. I think this process was almost as much fun (and a LOT less stressful!) as getting my own.

Question: Anyone had any issues taking delivery of a car that's not staying in California lately? John wants desperately to take delivery in CA and drive back home but apparently that's hard to do right now if you want to avoid paying the sales tax in CA. The dealer has suggested transporting it to Washington state for delivery and importation at a cost of ~$1100US. Suggestions?

Usually any item sold in a state with sales tax can be sold without the sales tax provided that the item sold is being documented as shipped/transported/delivered out of state. The caveat here is that the business selling that item does not have a physical store in the state that the item is delivered. This shouldn't be the case in the sales of an automobile.
