Default Need help with part #

All:

I need to know a part number for the rod that connects to the bottom of the shifter and the front of the transmission tunnel. Its purpose is to control the side-to-side motion of the shifter. Looks like this;

The bushings in both ends are shot. The rod is actually two pieces- a short threaded part and the rest of the rod. If you either know the part number (one piece or two) or have a good used one available, please let me know.

Golden rod shift kit installed, need help!

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Paul, heya...

You can buy those nylon bushings separately. You do not want to buy this as Porsche lists them in PET! The rod and front joint are sold as a unit in PET (not just the cups) and they are very pricey.

The nylon cup part # is 928 116 145 03 (about $11 from Sunset)
The SSK we are making replaces this forward rod completely and uses rod ends in place of these joints.

JHummel68:

I read somewhere that installing the short shift kit in a C4 means altering the tunnel- not sure I want to do that! Plus the shift seems pretty good to me.

Mark:

I have found the 'small bit'- part number 928-424-005-01-M100, but no reference to the rest of the rod. I will order two of the 928 116 145 03 tomorrow. But how do I install them? Looks like they are made as part of the rod?

Thanks,

Paul.

I have a decent one available. Thought it was my problem recently. Changed to an FD motorsports SSK & goldenrod. it took considerable effort to remove the original rod. It's not perfect but if you want to just replace the rod/bushings for now I can part with mine. The rod (without the front cup & nut) I believe is 964-424-011-31 usually a special order part for ~US $85-$90 Front cup 928-424-005-01. I'm not sure where the -M100 portion of the number comes from above. When looking to do this repair myself I called a couple of local Porsche dealers and quoted the numbers with the -Mxxx number at the end and they said "Where on earth are you getting these numbers from"

Nick:

I'm going to try and order new bushings tomorrow, as the rod itself is fine. In case that doesn't work out, what is the condition of the bushings? Can you post a photo?

Thanks,

Paul.

it is pretty straightforward... destroy the old ones to get them out and tap or press in in the new ones. It is a tight, one way, fit.

EDITED to correct some stuff... RL mobile leaves a bit to be desired

Nick:

Thanks for the offer but I think I'll try installing new bushings. There is really nothing wrong with the rod.

Mark:

Thanks! I'll order two tomorrow from Sunset and will see if they can FedEx/UPS them to me. I already scraped out what was left of the old ones.

Cheers,

Paul.
