Default Recommendation for replacement of Bridgestone S02

I just bought a set of 18" rims with wheels for the track and they came with Bridgestone S02 which are discountinued. The front rubber is still very good but the rears are down to the wire. What do you recommend for replacement if I want to keep the front SO2's? S03's?

thanks,

Looks like to me SO2's are still available via Tire Rack.

I switched from S-02's to Sumitomo's based on all the postive feedback on this board regarding the Sumi's.

oh...just FYI.
There are two types of S02's. One designated for Honda and the other for Porsche.

I had that issue 2 years ago and went with the RE050. As close as I could get. On to the Michelin PS now, prob Sumi HTR-III (cost) next.

Uniroyal Tiger Paws!

Just kidding. I'll plug the Sumitomo HTRZIIIs yet again. Super cheap and no complaints after ~3000miles.

The Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position (Can't these guys come up with a simpler name? Like maybe the Bridgestone Sticky or something similar.) is also a pretty decent street tire, I've only done two auto-x on them, two of only four, so can't comment on track performance.

The Michelin PS2s are probably the best but they should be at roughly TWICE the cost of the Sumi's.

I used S02A's when my S03's wore out (not the original S02's) and was happy with them. I was considering a change to the RE050's but sold the car before doing anything.

I just checked tirerack. They are almost as expensive than the Michelin but the fronts are still good and might bite the bullet. Can I run 265/35 on the rear for a widebody car to have more economical options in the future?

No kidding they're expensive. I've got S02a's on my 993. I just went back and checked my maintenance records. I bought the entire set of S02a's in January of 2006 for around $850. Now each rear S02a alone is about $375. By the time they ship they would be around $400 each. Looks like they've gone up about 30- 40% each since 2006.

My rears are nearly gone as well, but I've got over 50% thread left on the fronts. I may very well switch out all 4 tires before I pay $375 for a single Bridgestone. They are out of their minds if they think I'll pay that much for a +4 year old design tire. I'll just throw the fronts in the basement in case someone needs a cheap emergency replacement sometime in the future.

I'm considering going to Toyo T1Rs like I have on my M5.
