These cars are really meant to be driven. I bought my 79 SC with 209k miles and sold it several years later with 340ish thousand miles. I have no doubt that it's still on the road or track somewhere. I'll have to dig up some old pictures.

Seems like most of the high mile cars on the road I know about are SCs. Other than valve guide wear, the 993 should probably be more durable, so I wonder what we'll see in 10 more years?

Want to share any driving habits (I.E. keep shifts below 3K until warmed-up, then most shifts at 4K, etc,)? Oh, and what kind of oil have you used?

Any other longevity advice would be welcome.

Beat the **** out of it from time to time, change the oil ever 10k or so, plow through snow, rain, sleet, and heavy wind. Those are some of the things I recall.

What a wonderful testament both to fine automotive engineering and to Rich for driving his 993 ...and I mean driving; wow!

My 125K is paltry by comparison. Half the mileage, yes, but somehow still seems "young" despite my driving it daily. Had I not acquired a track car, I'd still be flogging my 993 on the track; amazing machine, clothed in art. There is much to be said for driving it often and driving it hard ...an added beauty to know it can be driven with gusto and is not just an automotive pretty face. No secret the venerable aircooled engines thrive on mileage and RPMs. Kudos to you ...you have the anti-garage queen

And seriously, I wonder how many machines today (including the wasser boxers) can/will hold up like 911s have done for these many decades. Truly, is it a bygone era?

I have some German buddies and all of them live in the city and hardly ever drive thier 911s. They let me flog them in the mountains when I come over though

I just broke 100k on Monday...............man do I feel like a rookie compared to 249K!

My old 79' 911SC went 213K before I ever did any engine work beyond clutch & tranny!
