Tire recommendation / wear

Hi
My car (96 C2) came with Continental ContiSportContact 2 tires, so when it was time to replace the rear tires, I ordered two of the same.
The new rears lasted about 10K miles; which kind of sucks for $500 in tires and mounting. Are there any tires that have notably longer life?
Thanks

Thanks for the link. I should use search more.
The takeaway from the other thread is that people are happy with the Sumitomo - but do they give any longer life on the rear than the 10K I'm getting with the Continentals?

I've only been through 12-15 sets of rear tires, and I've settled on Michelin Pilot Sports. I'm getting 15-18k per set of rears, and 30+k on the fronts. But like I said, I've only been through 12-15 sets.

Those Contis are like pinballs. I think they have a UTQG treadwar rating in the 300 range. With stock camber and toe and street driving you should be closer to 20K miles per set out back.
Sounds like you got the car recently. Ever had an alignment? It might be in good shape but aggressive. Check PO's papers - maybe you can find what it's set to.

PS - been pretty happy with Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports. Getting over 20K out of rears. I think they handle better than Contis but have 340 treadwear rating.

If I get 7K with spirited street use, I'm ecstatic.
+1 for Sumi III's, BTW. Love 'em.

Just a thought but if you're someone who doesn't put a lot of miles on your car it would make more sense to pay half as much for even half the tread life that way you would have fresh tires on more of the time. IIRC they don't recommend running tires that are over 7 yrs old.
