Question Toyo Proxies T1R... any good???

For reasons that would make me look like a bigger idiot than many of you are already aware, I ended up with a pair of Toyo Proxies T1R on the rear of Rufus (315x25x19). These tires are simply a leathal combination with the Pirelli on the front (255x30x19). My choices are: get the Toyos for the front, or grease up the old wallet and get Conti 3 or Michlein PS 2 all around.

Being a cheap bastid, I'll opt for the front Toyos, but only of they are a decent tire. I hate to pour good money after bad if they aren't a first rate tire.

Does anybody use the T1R? What is your experience? Since Tire Rack doesn't sell these, they have no test data.

Thanks. And don't yell at me.

Default Toyo T1R's

I am on my 3rd set on my BMW M5. They have shown decent wear even when pushed hard. Tire noise is acceptable although there are quieter tires out there. Grip is excellent with no squeal when pushed hard through the twisties. I haven't had any problem with hydroplaning and I frequently encounter rain since this is my daily driver.

Overall, I think it's a good tire for the money. I realize the performance on a 993 could be different but I'm happy with the performance on the M5. I ordered my last set from 1010tires.com.

I have them on my car. Did a bunch of research before buying- all results were favorable. Great tires, IMHO.

I have them on my car. I have autocrossed on them for about 1.5 seasons and they have held up quite well. I am buying r-compound tires for racing though.

Had them on my prior 993 and they did very well on the street, one Auto X, and a performance driving class.

My current has PS2's (came with the wheels) but I'll be going back to the T1R's when it's time to buy new... too many $ for the Michelins IMHO.

About to buy two for the back now. Super tires on wet conditions and off-ramp cornering.

I'm on my second set of them on my 2000 Trans-AM. Just got the 993 and it came with a new set of something else. I will not hesitate to replace the 993's tires with T1R's when the time comes.

Default Came with them . . .

Running Toyo T1R 225/40 ZR18 & 285/30 ZR18 on my 96 Turbo. They came with the car, they seem good for a street tire and give lots of (squeal) warning on DE events in the dry. Have done one DE day in the wet, given how wide the footprint is in the wet, they are workable, YMMV.

Thanks everyone. I ordered T1Rs for the front (255x30x19) from my local tire guy. I'm going out of town, so I'll mount them up next week.

I appreciate all the help.
