Yes, it’s possible.
You just need to utilize excellent vendors, be willing to get your hands dirty and have a few knowledgeable friends to call on for help.

Let me start by thanking Chris Walrod and Mark DiPietro of FD motorsports for their help in sourcing and supplying the necessary bits for my recent AWDectomy.

Mark proved to be an invaluable resource and provided detailed information on what bits were required for the AWD to RWD conversion. I bought most of the parts from Sunset, but if I were to do it over again, I’d buy directly from FDM if possible,
YOU HAVE SEEN THE RECENT NOTICE REGARDING PARTS ON THEIR HOME PAGE HAVEN’T YOU?

http://www.fdmotorsports.net/

As many of you know, Chris went to the trouble of designing and sourcing improved bushings for 964 and 993 front lower control arms. They are very reasonably priced and include clear installation instructions.

Big thanks to Adam G., (flatsixforme), who assisted with the removal of the Big Black Tube, the front diff and front driveshafts, <~ 90 pounds of mass removed>. I’d like to think he helped for purely altruistic reasons, but I think I smell another AWDectomy on the horizon.

I started this project thinking I’d document a DIY, but…………… timing dictated that the work proceed without photo’s and notes. If any of you are on the verge of doing this, feel free to contact me and I’ll pass along what we learned.

Too bad I have to wait ~ 8 days for an AX to see how handling dynamics differ.

Cheers

Craig

Craig,
One might argue that NOT buying a 993 can save you thousands as well.....
But, what fun is THAT?

My AWD is gone now, so save the parts for me! That is, unless I head down the same path.... Curious to hear your thoughts on your new "C2S". Do you have to change the rear badge now that you're a C4S poser???

Craig, you should really like the transformation. Since we did this to Mark's turbo, it is a blast to drive! Keep us posted on your impressions, once you get a really drive it.

Huge +1 to Chris' sig line. But it is because of the great folks like Chris, Robin, and the countless others here that make this a great place. Kudos!
