FWIW, I just bought a used airbox with the holes drilled out. Way cheaper. After taking the car for a run with it installed, I went back to the stock box. Just wasn't my thing.
So I have a used airbox cover with the holes already drilled going for cheap if anyone is interested. One of the latches is broken (it doen't stay on the airbox cover when removed) but still works and holds it on there just fine.

A tad loud on the freeway (that's why I sold my '89 targa- wife didn't like how noisy it was on the freeway) and more of a 'hiss' than I was expecting. I could definitely hear the engine more- but I can hear the engine just fine as it is!
I drilled mine out. Sorry to say but there is no diff at normal crusing speeds. It has more intake noise at WOT (Wide open throttle) ONLY. So if this makes more noise on the freeway you may want to see if the latch is not causing some of the additional noise. Fix it, put it on, you may really liek to noise. Again its only when you really want it. My experience.
Not exactly...the motorsound "package" included the airbox cover, motorsound mufflers (weak in my opinion) and highly polished stock tips.
So then you need more than just the air box too get improved sound? I thought that might just be the case... Darin thanks for the clarification on this.
