Default 681 miles since last years oil change... do i change it again?

Depressing I Know ... Only put 681 miles on last year (two year old car seat does not fit) and for my own Fathers day treat I brought it out from hibernation! Oil looks new (5w50M1 synthetic) though i know that moisture is bad so do i change it regardless? All comments welcome!

Thx

Even with synthetic oil, I recommend no longer than 6 months on the oil change. Usually people go 6 months before they hit the mileage limits on the oil and filter.

Agreed. Time is a factor as well as mileage. If it were me I would change it.

I have to disagree...there is now way that oil is used up...unless you have very high fuel dilution...drain 3 ounces and send it to Polaris or Blackstone Labs..costs 25 bucks versus 150 for an oil change...and I'd bet twice that amount that that oil is fine for another 3-4 years at that rate. remember, this is approx 12 qts, not a typical 5 qt oil capacity...I have stored cars with used oil analysis along the way...some for 5 years, and the oil is fine with no water or acidic contamination. JMHO.

if it makes you sleep better at night by all means do it! a purely rational, non-emotional response would be to leave it as is and send a 3 ounce sample in to have it tested. 3-4 business days later and you will know for sure!

With regards to changing just the oil... My thinking has always been that the dirtiest oil is in those filters, want that out, and it's not that much more work or cost.

Another way to look at the decision is when it comes time to sell. Think some might look at it as a negative if oil change receipts showed anything greater than every 12 months regardless of miles. Technically I'll bet the oil is just fine for another 12 months....

Do you mean two years for our 10+ year old 993s, or the new 997s?
Where did you get this information zone5?

I agree with Mr. tbil on this one. At time of resale you show the buyer that the oil was changed every year regardless of the miles negates the $$$ it takes to do the oil change. Buyers see this and eat it up. I buy and sell cars so this opinion is from a sellers view. Even though it doesn't make sense sometimes people buying a high end car love buying from an **** seller, be it right or not, or whether they would do the same thing.

I believe Porsche changed back to one year from two years on the later 997s.

My MY 2006 book says two years.

IMHO, unless the 681 miles was all short trips, I wouldn't change the oil at one year. The 993s hold 13 or so quarts total, so the moisture/dilution factor has to be very small. Oil analysis would be a good way for a cautious owner to check the oil quality.
