What is the 993 like to drive?

I second what Ed Burdle said in the third post above (feels like the car is strapped on your back).
I have tracked my for 12 years now. Mine has all of the creature comforts still in it (air, radio), but is very well set up for the track. The car is very capable (and durable).
I also have a GT3. That car is wicked fast, but is less conected. For example, when I push the brakes it feels more like a computer is telling the caliper to squeeze. There is a tremendous amount of braking happening, but it is disconnected (and not as consistent). In the 993, I feel like I am pushing the brake pad directly with with my foot!
Finally, with experience the 993 is easy/fun to drive near the limit. Perhaps that is also true for the GT3, but the limit there demands a higher level of talent.
If I had to sell one, the GT3 would be gone.
Goo luck. There are affordable 911SCs that provide a high thrill level. There will be expenses for maintenance, but these will be offsett to an extent by a lack of depreciation.

I agree with everything that has been said except for the notion that the 993 might be a bit on the slow side. I find mine to be very fast indeed and certainly not something that I would want to seen in the hands of a teenager. The 993tt is the ultimate and I would love to own one if I could but it is a car capable of frightening many when you unleash the over 400 hp that it delivers. You had better know what you are about! I plan to keep mine for a long time or until I can afford a 993tt and then after that I will have to buy that famous sports car that is found in the museum of modern art... the Jaguar E type.

TT would be something else.

I think for a lot of us who own a 993, we are not in it for the quickest 0-60 or the highest g around corners, but rather, 1/3 of the pleasure is knowing the history, another third on the looks and the last third on performance. At least that's how I feel.

By no means is the 993 a quick car. Today, there are quite a few factory stock cars and SUVs that are quicker.
If your looking for raw HP, a 993 (besides the TT) is not the car for you.
I like the idea that only 1 in 560,000 people have a 95 C4 993. Its a vehicle that isnt a dime a dozen and somewhat of a rare car from a production standpoint--my model that is with only 539 produced.

For me, it's been the combination of old-school craftsmanship, curves and performance. Even though there are faster cars out there, I find the 993 plenty fast for me; but it's never been about straight line acceleration - it's about how I love to drive it on a deserted twisty road that brings a smile to my face every time. I can honestly say that if I never buy another car again, I'll be a happy man. And oh yeah, +993 on the comment about looking back over your shoulder after you park it just to admire the curves on that rolling work of art!

For me its the fact that when my friends get out of their north american cars Zo6 and vipers and get in my 13 year old 993 they cant believe how tight and rattle free it is.

Well I guess I have the only fast 993... It must be the varioram engine and something special they did in the last year of production but I never have the urge on our roads to try the upper end of the speed limit and I am constantly surprising people of just how quickly she gets up to speed on the road. No, she will not cleanly snap your head off your shoulders as you leave the stop light - you'll need the TT for that but she has lots of speed for me, rock solid construction and superb handling. I am thrilled with the ride.
