Default Dumb German question

No, this is not a question for dumb Germans, nor am I a dumb German, but I do have a question.

Is there any reason that hand held, walkie-talkie type radios from over here would not work properly or would be illegal in Germany? I am about to go for a ride over there and thought a couple of those would be handy to have over there for between car communication.

The ride is one I went on last year, and just a small, invite only, buddy ride. This year we will visit the new museum and Strassburg before the ride and then go through the mountains in Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. We will be visiting Gmund, as well. Last year was the best vacation I have ever been on and I hope to top it this year.

They will work, but European Union regulations require the to be CE marked.
If they are not costums, might take them
I belive some of the walkie-talkie's in the us are both FCC and EC approved.

Chances that costums will take them is very small thoug

Have a nice trip, loads of nice places to see in the alps . . .

We took our Motorola FRS radios to Spain, Italy and France a few years ago, we did not have any problems with customs in Spain or London where we flew in and out of.

They sure came in handy at the Louve, boy what a big confusing place.

Are you talking about the Motorola types that are used in a plant...ie: we use Motorola MTX9250 radios OR the kind you might get at a Radio Shack?

If I'm not mistaken, the EU version of these operate in a different band than those sold in the USA. The country frequency managers probably publish restricted freqs onilne somewhere. For your limited use I would think that you could get away with it.

It is all in the frequencies. Given the small power output, I don't think that would be a safety issue, just may cause some local static. But given autobahn speeds, local will be relatively short
