Default I am not a crook....and need help!! (Locking lug nut issue)

I cannot locate my wheel locking lug nut socket!....

It is not the McGard type with a center key, but rather it is one that is round but with a few grooves/notches on the nut and a few raised ridges on the inside of the socket.

I don't know if there are many many brands or even if each nut is individually matched only to its socket.

If anyone has a suggestion on where to look, and if most tire shops have "master key" sockets so I need not worry for now, I would appreciate it. I need to have my tires changed....

Thank you!

Are you asking about the stock lock key for the lugs or aftermarket? If aftermarket, most quality tire/wheel shops should have a key.

I had to go to the dealer to get the socket when I bought my car 11 years ago. I bet they do not have them in stock these days!

I have an extra set of lug nuts and I am going to replace the locking lugs with regular.

Cheers!

If all else fails or if you are in a hurry, hammer a socket over the lug until it bites the lug and wrench it off. It is easy.

What JMR said. 12 point sockets work best.

Had to beat a socket onto mine after loosing the key.

DIdn't replace them with locking nuts, don't live in a bad area so its ceratinly not worth the hassle.

I've gone the socket route in the past. The wheel locks would only stop a punk that's not prepared.

Is it the stock type? I bet if you got to the dealer they will break them all for you. I had to purchase a new key for mine when the dealer that sold me the car stole it. It took 2 days & was like $18 from Barrier.

I got them on when I bought the car so I don't know if they are stock.

If anyone has a picture of the stock socket I can identify it, I think.

When I get home I can try to take a picture and post that, if I can get enough light in there....

They are probably stock considering the car was pretty bone stock when I got it. I will go to a non-locking type because this is not worth the trouble.

Thanks!

I found these on Patrick Motorsports Website:

http://www.patrickmotorsports.com/part/1069/

Are these all the same across board? I think this is what I have.

Question is: Does that socket only go with that set of nuts? Or would that socket fit all stock Porsche security nuts?

Thanks.

The socket shown on the Patrick website fits only that set of nuts, but there are only so many variations of that pattern, so it will fit the nuts on other cars with the same pattern...

The Patrick site is showing the stock style locknut so you very likely have the stock locks. The dealer should be able to sell you a new key but you'll need to bring your car in so they can determine which one fits, there is not a universal key and I think there are actually quite a few different ones. Alternatively they should have a complete set of keys in their shop so they can at least remove the lock nuts so you can replace them with something else. Worst, worst case use the 12 point socket method described above.

Don't make a bigger deal then it is. Go to Barrier, have tell you if they are stock, & what key # you need (there are like 30) & either have them break it, or buy a key.

If they are not stock, a local tire shop might know who makes them, & might also have a key.

If you are nice to the service DEPT, I bet they will do this for free.

Rocky is gone.. he moved to Audi.

You probably have stock lock. Barrier has a box of 32 keys (thats how many they produced for the 993).

They'll try them all until the find the right one... no charge.
