Default 993 C4S speaker upgrade options

Hi All,

I am a new C4S owner after trading my C2. Love the car but want to upgrade the pants nokia speakers. It has the upgraded sound pack , which I guess is standard issue on the C4S, so 3 speakers in the front doors and I guess the rears are 6x4's. The rears seem to have a little tweeter as there is a vertical speaker with a hump in the mesh.
Now on my C2 I just upgraded the rears with some JBL's which improved the sound no end. I am not wanting to start installing amps just yet but would like some direct replacements for what is there now.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bart - Cheers. I guess I should have said I am based in the UK. Don't really want to contact those chaps for free advice and then buy over hear.

I have a 993C2 with the same sound system. I don't know if you are still running the OEM head unit, but just changing that out makes the stereo sound a million times better. I went with the Alpine 9887CDA, great sounding stereo.

You have a lot of options.

The ultimate option is to remove all of the factory system and replace with more modern gear.
The nice thing is, these days, you can re-use the spaces left (amp space under passenger seat, door space and tweeter space) and get hugely improved sound without changing the appearance of your car.
The other point is, our cars are not "symphonic chambers" - except for what's behind the cabin
Therefore you really don't need an elaborate hi-fi system. A lot of power to high quality speakers is more than enough.

Do some searches on the forum with "stereo" as a key word.
You will find some excellent threads with a ton of info.

+1 for what Shake said - changing the stock head unit to a CDR220 made a big difference in sound quality in my car which came with the factory hi-fi option. I haven't replaced the speakers yet but expect to later this year.

You can order the CDR220 from SW Stereo: http://www.swstereo.com/stdetail.php?prodID=16

I'm no stereo expert but you will have to find speakers that can be properly driven with the limited power you will have. I finally gave up on getting the sound quality I wanted without subs and placed an order with Car Audio Innovations.

I upgraded my head unit to the Alpine that talks to the IPOD.. Something like 60 watts to each speaker.. Upgraded the FR/Rear speakers to MB Quart. Sounds amazing compared to original..

Cheers chaps. The car already has an Alpine head unit which my Itouch hooks upto. All I really want is to upgrade the speakers and then maybe the amp at a later date. Just want to get some speakers that will fit the holes I have and give a better quality of sound.
I guess I was hoping for feedback from someone who has done this already and could say that Infinity xyz's or JBL such and such would do the job.
I'll do a search and see what I can find. I agree it's the sound of the oily bits that are best but as I drive the car most days I also want to listen to some good tunes.

Focal, as used by CAI, is one of the better choices. I have Dynaudios sitting on a shelf, but they may never go in the 993.
