Default Upgrades in order of importance

In your opinion, list the order of importance for the following performance upgrades.

Exhaust

LWF/RS Clutch

Suspension

Air Filter

17"-18" Wheels (assuming you have 17's to start)

If I've missed any others, please educate me.

Here is what I did:

1. Suspension (PSS10s)
2. Upgrade to 18" Wheels (preferably same time as suspension) I did Solid Spoke Turbo Twists.
3. I plan on the airbox next
4. Exhaust, I guess...I'm leaving mine alone
5. I have a chicktronic.

Importance I would say:
Suspension
Wheels
Exhaust
Airbox

In terms of cost value I would do exhaust first.

1. Suspension
2. Suspension
3. Suspension
4. Suspension
5. Suspension

Kidding aside, if it is running on original tall-boy springs and leaking Monroes, this would be my first choice by a long shot. Including installation, alignment and corner balance, not cheap but essential.

Of the rest, I'd be inclined to upgrade parts as the need arose/budget permitted. An air box is cheap/free. Light, strong forged wheels and good tires are not. I would not bother replacing a perfectly functional clutch... but I guess it depends on how much $$ you are prepared to drop at once.

I prefer the enjoyment I get out of each and every modification. I love the research, planning, saving, installation and then the before and after! I am sure you will get a bunch of different opinions though...

The flywheel is overrated, IMO.

If you're talking about pure performance, here's my list:

1) Driver's education
2) Suspension
3) Driver's education
4) Re-gear (or supercharger)
5) Driver's education
6) Momo Mod .07 steering wheel (totally underrated as a performance mod)
7) Driver's education
8) Exhaust (less for performance and more for aural pleasure)

Good luck,

Street. When I find the right one, I may take it out to the track once in a great while, but I'm really just interested in street.

Good luck,

Mark, you don't feel the combination of slightly increased HP and saving some weight in the back is noticeable?

Suspension! Suspension! Suspension!

The first modification I made to my 96 C4S was to install PSS10s. What an amazing difference. I cannot wait to get out on the track. Lowered, corner balanced, and a 4 wheel alignment.

From what I've heard / read, tightening up the shifter by way of short shift kit, shift rod, and firmer engine mounts provide nice bang for the buck. My SSK just came in so hopefully I'll know firsthand soon enough.

If it is noticeable, and I don't think that it is, you will soon not be able to discern it, despite the obvious efficiency. I only have it on my car since I am racing it and have prepared it to the limit of the rules.

How much extra performance do 18" wheels give you over 17" wheels??
