Default 993 and GT2 at VIR

Video was from First Settlers PCA @ VIR last weekend.

The GT2 was gorgeous. Watch that thing take off on the back straight.

Vids look good Wes.

Your line out of 1, into 2 are interesting to me. Completely different than my line. Do you have a datalogger? If so, which one?

Thanks Brian.

I do use a datalogger - Traqmate. I play around with my line into 1 and through 2 from time to time. Sometimes I'm faster taking a late apex and shorting 2 - others I can pick up more time by biting off more of 1 and hugging track out but that tends to slow down as the tire wears.

I try to exit 1 so that the distance to 2a is as short as possible and I try to carry as much speed to 3 as I can. I always take T3 as a 2-stage turn.

I hear ya. I never track all the way out coming out of 1 because it seems like I lose too much grip. The front end wants to push and the rear end gets loose. So I hug it in the center of the track, then hug the right side before kicking it over to 2 and making a bee-line toward 3.

Is yours AWD? If so that may explain why that particularl line works for you , and doesn't for me...

Have that rear view mirror removed! So the turbos must only kick in on the straights...

Gotcha.

There is a pretty distinct groove coming out of 1 and I try to get my outside rear tire on the outer portion of that groove. Hard to explain without walking on the track but you can tell when you drive into it because you feel a bit of a "Banking" effect.

My car is good 'ole 2WD baby!!!! I run a 245/40/18F and 295/30/18R. My car has ZERO understeer and is set up to oversteer when needed (and sometimes when not!) I love this ****.

I was anticipating your question re: the data and just took a look at my two fastest laptimes (2:08.5 and 2:08.8) along with a 2:09.2 for good measure. Figures, I take 3 different lines through 1 and 2/2a. Interesting enough, the two fastest laptimes switch leaders as the lap goes on. I think I need to work on my T11 entry to Oak tree. That seems to be where I caught a lot of time on one leader and the other laptime caught back up through Hog Pen. The search for time continues!

I'm working on getting the camera mounted lower, perhaps get the mount upside down and shoot from there. Still working on that. Would like to show more hands too.

The GT2 was very quick. He was a competent driver and was an instructor. I would think twice going around a few corners on this track with close to $200k at the wheel.

As a professional video producer, I recommend a Wide-Angle adapter, which makes the camera more steady and gives a wider point of view... if you have this already, just discard my note... just wanted to help! I also use a Linear Polarity Filter to cut down on Glare and to highlight the colors!

I really enjoyed the video, keep shooting!

Dang Wes, I need to ride with you next time I'm down there. I'd love to do a 2:08 in my car What suspension setup are you running?

Cheers, Pat

Thanks guys for the compliments.

Brian - running R6 Hoosiers. Sticky icky. Going to try some Dunlops from Sasco at my next event.

Thanks for the tip Bert. Not sure how I can get a wide angle on my camcorder. It's an Insignia HD camcorder. I think I'm SOL. Maybe I should just get a better camera with attahments. Trying to avoid spending more than the 150 for this one. Need money for tires!! ;-)

Pat - I'm running Moton Clubsport with HR springs. I have no rubber in the joints and upgraded to RS tierods/uprights and all toe and various links. Added the wing and front dive planes and has helped my confidence as much as downforce. You can ride with me anytime. I'm happy to sit right seat too if you want.
