Default Need help with tool purchase

Hey guy's,
As some of you know, I live in Seattle most of the time, but my car is in Northern California where I spend several weeks a year. I need to buy a decent tool kit to work on the car with when I'm in town (light maintenance, HID kit install, hood badge swap, etc.). Does anybody make a nice quality kit that has all the usual suspects in it? A big plus would be a kit that would fit flat in the trunk. Any ideas, suggestions greatly appreciated.

With Memorial Day sales going on and July 4th sales coming up soon, I'd think that you could find a pretty decent set of tools for a good price. If you don't need the highest quality, Sears sells Craftsman products in sets that meet just about any need. It just depends on what you're looking for.

That was my first plan. I have several craftsman tools that I inherited from my dad that are still as good as new. I haven't shopped for tools in years and thought there might be sets out there that are metric/auto specific. Thanks for the input.

JP, you are welcome to drop by and use my tools when you are in the Bay Area - just PM me. I have done a few HID installations and it is a easy upgrade.

I started with Craftsman, and especially for "consumables" like 13mm sockets and #1 Phillips, the lifetime warranty is great.

If I was looking for a fresh tool kit for part time use with my own money, I'd probably do Harbor Freight. I get that dirty and un-American Walmart feeling when I go there, but I could put together my own kit- combination wrenches, ratchet and sockets, screwdriver set, pliers set, hex keys, even the box itself for $100 and still have change leftover. Especially of it's on sale. I think many of their hand tools also carry lifetime warranty as well.

Great idea, thanks. That's exactly what I'm looking for and there's a store in Santa Rosa, Ca., just north of where I stay.

This is what I keep in the car, it will do 85% of what I need. If you need more you can easily pick up a wrench or bigger drive kit. But the car tool kit also can do a lot.

I picked up mine in Seattle for about $130, I also have a Facom kit that I really like, but they are more expensive & harder to find.

Nice. Where did you find them in Seattle, at the Ducati dealer?
