993 C2S or 993 Turbo?
#31
Ha! This pretty much sums it up...but seriously, with the exception of the GT2, the TT is king in the 993 world. I will say I do prefer the stiffer clutch in my na 993 better the the turbo.

I only voted C2S because it's likely a lot less maintenance, lol. Consider this -- the more goodies on your car, the more it can break. Do you either have the moolah or the skill to fix it? I know I don't. I LOVE turbos, but I'm just too lazy to maintain them, and I pretty much HATE IT when anyone else touches my baby. Sigh.

I wasn't really talking about the engine . . . I just know from being at the track that guys with turbos are always tweaking something. Fun time if you know what you are doing. I do not hardly know a thing about turbos -- except how to drive 'em.

The raw power of the TT is addicting without question. A stock TT vs. a well-sorted 3.8 C2S....? That would be a tough choice. The NA cars have something so special about them. Now if it was a NineMeister NA motor... that gets even tougher!

I voted C2S.
I do like the idea of having 400 hp under the hood but I was never a big fan of turbo engines because of the dreaded turbo lag. The KKK boost is definitely a nice thing while accelerating on the strait but it is rather not desirable when the car loses its balance with nasty understeer in a fast turn. I know a few guys who are not bothered by this behavior but I guess they are better drivers than me...
I do not even want to start with AWD system that ruins the RWD handling characteristics of a pure sports car. I simply do not buy the notion of having of “AWD superior traction” in the car that is almost NEVER driven in bad weather conditions (on snow/salt/sand/sleet covered roads).
The other thing it the looks of that oversized whale tail. It is just too much for my taste. It looks like low-tech hump taken off an old honda civic ricer. I much prefer simple, classic look of the old RS tail or the retractable spoiler on the new 997TT (or rather no tail at all).
But the primary reason is the cost.
Current asking price for a 993 turbo is about $25K more than for a nice S car.
Considering higher maintenance costs and higher insurance rates I simply do not think it is worth it....

Three Wheelin'
I vote for the TT. Especially at altitude...we really dig that forced induction thing. I think that I would remove the front drivetrain tho.
So am i voting for a GT2?

1. I'm coming for two C2Ss and I thought I was a NA kind of guy... until I drove a TT and bought it straight away. I noticed there is very much talk here on the board about the dreaded turbo "lag". Well, maybe in a 930turbo or alike but with these double KKK16's, this so called "lag" everyone speaks of is virtually non-existant, I swear. I thought the same this as you before I jumped in the TT and boy was I surprised!! No lag and gobs of POWER and TQ. Have you ever driven a 993TT??
2. I agree about the RWD being nicer in steering feel. Some argue that with the kind of power the TT brings, you want the AWD for added safety. My point is, if you want to keep RWD, just do the 2wd conversion: it's about 900usd in parts.. Not that bad.
3. Looks are purely subjective so no comment on the Honda wing statement. I think both the C2S and the TT are two of the most beautiful Porsches ever made.
4. I think the price difference is much less than 25K (all else equal, mileage condition etc). It might apply for a GQ but not for a DD. Maybe half of that, maybe 15K more even but look at what you get: I don't know about the US versions but if I compare the ROW C2S vs. the TT here is what you get for the extra 15K (or so): TT engine, Big reds, litronics (std), full leather (std: e.g dash, center console etc.), the iconic tail with the turbo badge and more.. I think it's worth the extra dough.
This is what I mean. Go drive it and see for yourself!
Reading my post now it seems a bit rude maybe. Sorry about that, just wanted to vent a little, just sharing my experiances. No offense.
