Default New RUF wheel/Devective Airbag LAPD! RESOLVED

Guys,

I installed my new to me RUF steerinf wheel, I love it however the airbag light went on right after install.

I took it to my indoe mech and he tried to reset it with his Hammer and it didnt work. He said maybe the bag is defective. I bought it from LAPD and the thing looks and feels brand new....

any advise would be greatly apopreciated.

thanks,
sam

You may wish to bring this up with LAPD.

Otherwise, you can reinstall your old airbag and wheel to see if the light can be reset.

Was the battery disconnected during the entire install process?

Even if it werent, the light should be allowed to be reset via Hammer or PST2.

OK, went back to Mechanic today and put back the origonal airbag, and we were able to reset the error light with the HAMMER. put back the Ruf Air Bag and couldnt reset the code anymore....actually when resetting with the HAMMER, the light would go off for 1 second, and then come back on again...

before I go ballistic on LAPD, is there anything else I can try?

This is the 3 spoke RUF for 993.......

thanks,
sam

I spoke to them today. They asked me to call them Monday after they speak to Ruf Germany. Say they want to help, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

All you can do is give them a chance to help out. Keep us informed.

Uh huh, and the check is in the mail and I won't come in your mouth etc.

Seriously, I've heard so many folks who've had a bad experience with LAPD that it would make it next to impossible for me to do business with them.

I don't want to start an argument, and I wish you lots of luck with this, but I never understand why anyone would do business with a company with such a long standing, and well documented, history of fraud and/or deception. One or two complaints? That could be his word vs. their word. But here on Rennlist, you can read of many, many horror stories of fraud and deception by LAPD. Caveat emptor really applies with this company.

FYI, it seems that folks have better luck with LAPD if they live in Los Angeles. I guess it's easier to be a weasel when you don't hafta deal with the customer face-to-face.

Best of luck with this.

Let's give them a chance to fix this. I did business with LAPD once and they messed up the order but fixed it without incident. By the way I am not local so it was a phone/shipped order.

I've bought several things from them mail order and had no problems. I even paid for an ECU, had them hold it for 30 days while I decided where to have it sent, changed my mind and they refunded my money with no hassel at all. Only thing is they don't answer the phone all the time, which is probably not a comfortable feeling if you think you are being ripped off. But if you've ever actually been to any junk yard - that's not too surprising. Give them the benefit of the doubt, but I do hope you paid with a credit card.

Its probably the nicest auto dismantler facility I've ever been to. They also have about 5 people working the phones, but honestly...its that busy there.
