Default Best PPI shop in San Diego area?

The owner of the car I'm hoping to buy just recommended, being an honest sort, that I get a pre-purchase inspection of the '95 993 I have been drooling over. Any suggestions? I hate to ask, but how much does this generally cost? Thanks!!!

Try Dieter's downtown. Not cheap, but one of the best in town. Cost will depend on whether you want a leakdown test done which is always prudent..

I believe I can recommend Black Forest for a PPI in San Diego.
A little over a year ago, they charged the PO of the car I ended up buying a total of $197.31 ($49.33 for a "Buyer Check" and $147.98 for "Compression Test").

The PO had a connection with the place, but he was paying for it, so I figured I'd give it a chance. He had advertised the car as "needs nothing execpt a new owner", but the PPI proved otherwise (nothing too major). Black Forest appeared to do a very thorough PPI.

Good luck

Either of the two mentioned: Black Forest, Dieters

Both shops' manager/headTech are VERY active with the local PCA as well.

I don't know about their PPI but I take my car to Black Forest for all services. Recommended.

I would recommend driving an hour north if that's cool with the seller and see if Robin Sun can take a look ---

I like it that some of the shops mentioned are into the PCA scene -- seems to be a place where more attention to detail would be made. Yes, the leakdown definitely sounds like something I'd want. I am waiting on the 993 book of fame (Sreathers? Can't remember), where I hope I will be able to look to see what numbers are acceptable from a healthy engine. Thanks for the suggestions so far -- keep them coming, even if they have already been mentioned. I want the best I can get.

I used Black Forest a couple of years ago and have no problem recommending them. They did a very thorough job and their communications with me were outstanding.

Black Forest it is. I cannot believe what a wonderful group this is!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!! I might get the car as early as this upcoming week. I will bring the portable digi cam and the lap top to keep everyone updated. As soon as I get him home, he gets a bath and I think I might even sleep in the bonnet.
