Default Brake Dust Shields? Lose them?

Putting on rotors for the first time. I wacked at this rear one for 10 minutes until I figured out I had the parking brake on.

Wondering if I need this brake dust shield. I'm assuming Porsche put it on there for a reason but just wondering if I can lose it.

You can... But it helps elevate **** from getting jammed between the caliper and rotor, etc... My car is primarily a track car and I still have them even though I may get better air flow and subsequently better cooling with out them.. my $.02

Thanks guys, I'll leave them on. Someday I'll have a dedicated race car...someday. Heading to the track on Friday to start shredding these new rotors.

Aw, crap! I was going to do this but we're doing a ski trip instead. Are you doing the BMW thing on the 16th? What were we talking about? Oh yeah. No idea about the shields

Yo dude, I'd be up for another DE next week if you're up for it. There is also an autocross on the 18th I was thinking about. Wait till you see the new paint job, looks like a new car.

Mine are off, but there are good reason to leave them even on a trak car. They do keep heat away from the wheel sensors

Is your 993 an early-build '95? At some point, Porsche changed the shape of the rear shields and did away with the round version shown in your pics.

I took mine off when the car was mainly a track car. Now it's mainly a street car and they're still in the attic - no problems for several years.

Oh and not sure if it is a early build or not. I have a basket handle if that makes a difference.

ABS sensors & brake pad wear sensors(but who cares about them)

Here's an ABS sensor on a rear wheel carrier

Resurrecting an old thread...my dust shields warp 2 out of 3 times last year when I had track days - should I just get them removed ? Car is rock solid otherwise - the screeching sound when they’re bent is really annoying. I got 991.1 C4S.

Warped dust shield for rear wheels
