Default 993 and Attention!

Wow so this is becoming somewhat frequent for me. But I either have people pulling up next to me at stoplights motioning to roll down the windows and saying nice car. Or just giving a thumbs up. I was with my GF the other day on the freeway and a guy just had to floor it to reach me and honked. Didn't hear it, but I guess he came up again and honked and gave me a thumbs up. This is so completely opposite of when I had my RSX. BTW my RSX was heavily modded (much faster than this current car), wheels, lowered, and supercharge whine were the only external noticeable mods done. And well I never had anyone comment on that car ever. The 993 is pretty interesting to say the least.

Yeah, I get a lot of that too. My GF and I were cruising down the highway a couple of weeks ago in a nice steady downpour, and I look over out the passenger window and there's some young guy pacing us, about 18 years old in some beat up car with a big old smile on his face giving me the thumbs up. The kicker was, his drivers side window was busted out, someone probably stole his stereo, and the whole left side of his shirt was soaked, but he was excited to see my car. I grew up with nothing and that could have been me 27 years ago. I didn't think about it at the time unfortunately, but I wish I had followed him and given him some cash towards a new window. Would have been a nice thing to do...

I get it the thumbs up from teenagers and the "younger" crowd from time to time.

Like wise. I had the car imported to Oz from HK not long ago - and in the last few months I've had about 5 people give me positive comments on the car. Looks wise the car is totally stock. I get thumbs up from on-lookers, and guys pull up next to me and yell out "oi"!!! And then tell me how sweet the car looks, and ask me if it was the model from Bad Boys the movie, how much it costs, etc.

It must be the familiar shape of the car and how pleasing the shape is to the eye - much like the original mini and beetle. And both young and old people love it. The 993 is really an iconic car and a true modern classic.

Regards

Ditto. My 993 attracts a ton more attention than my 968 (a great, and good looking, car in it's own right)

Yesterday I was cruising up I-26 to Columbia, SC when a fetching blonde in a 645i started caravaning with me at a brisk clip. She pulled up alongside, gave the thumbs up and asked if I wanted to trade cars with her.

A couple of days ago, two younger neighbors (early 20's) saw me coming and walked a block to my house just to see the car up close. They said they always drive by when the garage is open, that they love the car, etc. Nice to see that, especially in Miami, where most people either don't care or are plain jealous.

A nice man on a motorcycle pulled next to me on the freeway last week, and gave me a thumbs up. He was wearing a cutoff Levi vest with "Hessians" on the back. I waved at the nice man.

Oddly enough I get very little attention with the Porsche but lots of thumbs up when I'm out with the 'Cuda. Perhaps its because this is a blue collar town?

People here in "Car Town USA" can be pretty jaded. Whenever I take my car to Porsche or Cars and Coffee "exotic" type events, I feel very plain jane. However, this weekend, I caught at least one very admiring smile followed by another young kid in an older F150 who must have dropped into neutral to rev up and get my attention followed by more smiles. This was inland, south of Riverside, where there's not nearly such the Porsche infestation as the greater Westside of LA. Makes sense, I guess. Or maybe they were just checking to see if there was food in their teeth?

So like any other red-blooded American male, you pulled over to discuss it, right?

Yep, here in the westside of LA nobody cares because they all have better cars

Unless you're driving an Italian exotic, nobody pays attention. And even then they usually are still too jaded to take notice. Just another middle aged reality TV show executive in his toy.

And the downside I've found when driving the 993 in other parts of the city is that Ricers and juvies in Bimmers keep punching it along side me trying to race me.
