Jeff, thanks. I hope we collectively manage to help at least somewhat and save you some money.

My thought would be to bite the bullet now and do the SAI flush. If it's obstructed, it's obstructed and there's not much you can do. It's an emission issue (albeit completely useless) and the car will not pass inspection in MA even if you find a station that's willing to not be too particular.

Local guys, specifically Kevin, will point you to the procedure or a shop to do it much better than I can, since mine is a '95 without OBD II.

P1411 - Secondary Air Injection System Incorrect Downstream Flow Detected/Manufacturer Auxillary Emission Control

P1691 - Malfunction Indication Light Open

You can see OBD II codes here (Audi codes, but they are standarized): http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/audi/

Sorry about this thread hijack, but do any of you Boston guys know if tomorrow's Boston Spring Tour (organize through PCA NE (www.porschenet.com) is going forward? They have it down for tomorrow on the website (see link), but it doesn't look like any meeting or tour info has been posted.

Last year it was a tour of the battleground areas in Lexington and Concord, and a lot of fun on some great roads.

No, Rome. I have a couple of appointments today to show the BMW I have for sale. Thanks for the invite. I need to start getting the NER PCA mag or remember to go online more often.

Didn't know there was a meeting location...it was blank on the PCA NE website last I checked.

Rome,

I guess I am confused. It looks like the Spring Rally/Tour listed on the website is for May 17th. However, when you look at the calendar section it shows a Spring Tour today, but doesn't list the event on May 17th.

Many good things happening on the 17th. Zone 1 is doing and event, the RennList group from NJ/NY (Arrwin & company) is
doing a 2-day drive up to Mt. Equinox in Vt., and the local chapter is doing a rally. So many options....

I guess it was just wishful thinking that something was happening today.

Default reset of ECU and SAI code turning back on

Has anyone actually observed the number of miles after the ECU resets and before the OBDII sends out the SAI code to the CEL and any OBDII reader? It seems counter-intuitive that the ECU would be reset but the SAI code not triggered nearly instantaneiously. Does it need a restart to trigger for example?

(I might have passed two years ago when this happened, since my CEL came back several miles after I passed! But I gave up on the hope this time and am about to have the ports cleared out at some expense.)

Do you have a link to the Mt Equinox event?

Isn't actual spring a pre-requisite to a Spring Rally/Tour? I woke up, looked outside and went back to bed. Yuck. 40s, raining.

Update. I chose to have the SAI passages cleaned out by the repair shop and they have the required components removed and are starting the flush and cleaning.

Since the exhaust is off and some topside components have been removed, the shop is suggesting to replace the O2 sensors. The sensors appear to be original and they feel replacing them now will prevent problems in the near future.

Is the replacement of the O2 sensors a good move at this time (126Kmiles)? Second, if the answer to the first is 'yes', I am being quoted almost $500ea for the sensors (OEM from a local Porsche dealership) by the repair shop. Is this accurate since I see O2 sensors at Pelican Parts for less than $100ea?

Thanks for all the help.

Holy Smokes! Sounds like someone is looking to make a little extra money...

Replace them when you need to replace them - some day.

Replacing them at 126K miles is not a bad idea, although not really necessary. But get them from Pelican, Sunset or any automotive store.

So all O2 sensors are created equal? The ones from Pelican will function equally well as OEM?
