They can be very troublesome and unreliable. Not all of them are, but when they do fail they can be expensive to fix. When you do get a good one they are fine.

I have had the Nak CD400 for about three weeks now, purchased from Woofersetc.com at their recently reduced price of $299 (was $349 or $369 until recently). Excellent unit so far, with a design that looks more OEM than the Becker OEM that it replaced.

The CD mechanism will skip over moderate bumps, and the CD mechanism is considered to have a high failure rate. From a very unscientific study of various blogs, posts, etc., I concluded that the failure rate of the CD mechanism was as high as 1 in 5 or even 1 in 3 (and who knows what happened to the others later). Nak support is reportedly non-existent, and for the lack of support I would say the opinions were universal.

At $300, the universally praised SQ along with the best OEM look I could find made it worth it. So far I am very happy with my decision. Just buy it with your eyes open that in a year or two you may be replacing it or listening to music exclusively from the MP3.

After spending hours trying to get my Blaupunkt Hamburg MP 68 installed only to realize the face will not sit flush (sticks out about 1/2 inch from the dash), now I am looking for a new HU.

The Nakamichi unit looks pretty good, since I don't play CDs (radio mostly and in other cars -- ipod) the failure doesn't bother me. Can anyone post pics of the Nakamichi? I would love to see the side profile and how it sits on the dash before committing the $300 for the new HU.

Are you sure the deck is the problem? I just installed an Alpine and had a similar problem. I removed the glove box so I could see what was going on. There are some tabs that grab the end of the deck that cause the problem. A considerable amount of force was required to move the deck in the last bit. Matt.

The frame for the Blaupunkt sits where the CR210 sits. The problem is with the HU because the face will not ho in the dash opening without stretching out the dash. The "face" (not the faceplate) is just too big.
