Default Do Phantom Plates/spray work on traffic camera's?

Yes I searched (what a joke).....

The WSJ had an article about traffic camera's today and how they are becoming more common, etc. In the article they mention what drivers are doing to combat this. It icludes placement of snowmen, attacking the cameras, and the use of photoblocker spray and plastic skins. The article lists a company, Phantom Plate INC that sells the spray and skins.

Do any of you have an knowledge or experience with this? Have any of you photographed a car with this on the plate? I wonder if it is worth it??

(is this why all of your license plates are blurred out??? - this is a joke of course)

Any info is appreciated. If it works....group buy?

I have no first hand knowledge, but I've read here and there that it doesn't work. That said, the easiest and best way to keep the cameras from tagging you is not to run red lights!

I think a can is less than $20, so I doubt a group buy would garner much savings...

We are getting green light cameras too. Basically the red light cameras do double duty and when green, will also act as a photo radar location.

I used a spray some time ago. But I don't know if it worked. I never ran any red lights, either. Anybody want to really test it?

It's not like those cameras use an out-of-this-world technology. Spray your license plate with that stuff then take pictures. It will be pretty clear whether it works or not

These camera's are spring up like weeds by my house. These ****ers bring in $100k a month easily. I don't think there is a way to defeat them without getting thrown in jail if caught.

I have seen paint ball guns used, trash bags over the top, yellow stickies on the screen you name it. My bet is you can jam the signal on these because they look to be using a 3G network. I don't think they are connected via a dedicated line of some sort.

I got busted by one and they sent me a link to the video for me to watch. So these things are rolling video all the time if you trip the wire.

At night the intersection looks like studio 54.

Some people are ignoring the tickets because they think they are not properly served. make them get off their *** and come hand deliver the notice. Not sure if that works though. or if you are just racking up late fees.

The Phantom spray stuff works for some cameras. A buddy of mine in CA used it, but only on the front of his car. The rear plate was not treated and this is how the cops IDd him. The cops sent pics with the ticket of the front/back of his car, and you could not see anything but white on his front plate.. There are also plastic covers that go over the plates that are supposed to do the same thing.. Not sure how effective they are.

Arizona had the honor of being the first state to put stationary photo radar equipment on a state funded highway. Our liberal. left wing (who now is Yo Bama's TSA head) Ex-Governorl, impleted a statewide blanket of 200 portable SUV units with Photo radar for the sole purpose of backflilling the state deficet she created in 6 years. CHeck out the snowmen video.
Now that the bitch is gone to DC, there is legislature pending to park these units due to the outcry here in AZ.
The left wing a**holes are livid!
Common sense will pervail here.....leave the units in intersections for red- light runners, but leave us cautious speeders alone!

Hehe, and I thought they were those expensive NASA see-through-your-pants kinda cameras. Isn't that why they cost the city so much of the taxpayer's money?

It's getting pretty crazy everywhere. Check this out: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/par...s/#more-294462

I bought the flective film cover, I will take a flash pic......give me a week or so...

I have been coveting the new escort with GPS that downloads the traffic camera locations.....I have the V1 hardwired, but the power source is the same.

May pull the trigger

DC is using cameras for speed as well as red lights. The tickets carry no points and fines are not high if you pay quickly - thus nobody bothers to challenge them. If you don't pay quickly the fine doubles and I'm sure they make life miserable by issuing an arrest warrant for if you ever get stopped by a real peace officer.

Although municipalities justify red light cameras saying that they reduce light running there are statistics that show otherwise. 1) when people realize cameras are used in an area they will often slam on the brakes when the light turns yellow for fear of not making the cut-off - and then get rear-ended. 2) towns often shorten the time of the yellow light by 0.5 to 1.0 second to snare more yellow light runners. Studies show that lengthening the yellow light by 1 second dramatically reduces red-light running and resulting accidents as does adopting the "blinking green" feature used in much of the EU....but these measures only increase safety and don't increase revenue so we get cameras.

I remember many years back in Texas when they put speed cameras on the highway. Upset motorists first "bagged" them then resorted to shotgun blasts. The cameras came down shortly.

And I THINK I got tagged by one Sunday AM not 10 minutes after I picked up the rental car on NB I-17 around Van Buren. Portable unit. Yeah, I was doing about 67. Yeah, I had a car to my left doing the same speed. Yeah, I saw the strobe light flash. And yeah, I saw that stretch is still posted at 55. Twenty years after I've lived there, and it's still a 55 zone? Any tips or links you know of to assist what I'm expecting in the mail?

Ignore it. You have to be served for it to be legit. Doubt that they will find you in CA.

When I lived in AZ, the attorneys all advised that you ignore them until served. Many people close to me were never served and nothing ever happened.
