Default Windshield Replacement

Looks like I need to replace the windshield. Could someone refer me to a shop they know of or better yet have experience with in NJ area? I am willing to travel in order to get it done right.

OEM glass is $1300. GEICO paid for mine last year. Aftermarket is 1/2 that.

I would use a body shop that specializes in Porsches, since the windshield is a bit tricky to install. Especially the antenna part. Not that I'll ever need it but it's nice to have the option.

$750 seems low. Safelite just quoted $950 and they claim it is after market made by them in South Carolina.

I did my at Safetlite this past Saturaday. The online quote was $720, but I called the rep because I had just 2 days prior got the online quote to say $660, he met me almost half way at $680. I went to the dealer to get the gaskets in case the shop didn't have it, sure enough they didn't have it, so the shop gave me another $40 off because I bought my own gasket. The installer ended up using my new inner gasket but reused the outer gasket. Total out the door plus tax was $707 + $42 (for the inner gasket).

I now have an unused outer gasket..... anyone think the dealer will take it back?

Do you know if they used OEM glass?

Those quotes in the mid $700's are good prices considering the price and delivery from Sunset. Here is a quote from Jeff @ Sunset from a couple weeks ago...

The glass is 664.14 and a week away to order, plus about 120.00 shipping. We have very good luck getting glass from Porsche without damage

That put's me at $784.00 without any labor.

Here is what Safelite's online quote just provided me:

Web-Only Price: $1072.95
(includes labor, before tax)

This quote includes a National Warranty that is good for as long as you own or lease your vehicle. The quoted price is good for the schedule options listed below.

Al,
I just had a shop order glass for me. I asked my dealer who they use and this is the guy they've used for years - maybe that is a way you could go.

The shop did not think he could get anything but OE glass for a 993 from the dealer, but we'll find out soon (he would have to use OEM if it's available since it's an insurance job).

No Way.. The OEM Glass alone is more than that. As others have stated, be sure to have it done at a shop that is familiar with this install.

Isn't the aftermarket glass a lot better than the OEM, which is very soft and pits easily? What's the best to get? I'm about to hit 100K and this is (pretty far down) on my list of things to do...but my windshield is pretty well sandblasted at this point.

I am so confused about this. Safelite claims they manufacture an aftermarket windshield.
