1997 PORSCHE 993 TURBO X50
#47
Lots of confusion about the X50 for the 993T. Some because it was also available for the 996.
424HP is the same as the turbo S, just 16 HP more than standard turbo. I always thought 16HP
was a silly upgrade.
The 16HP (Less than 4% increase in Power) are easily achievable with overboost and I don’t think it really needs the extra radiator.
I had the impression X50 was always, at 450, more powerful than TurboS. Didn’t know about the x50 424HP.
I always liked the regular turbo wing better…
About availability for different years, you need to remember that the ECUs were different from 97 on, so if parameters needed to be adjusted, on a 97 and later that would be a few minutes job and depending on what needed to be adjusted for 96 or 95, it could need some hardware replacement on the ecu.
Even the first gt2 had around these HP figures.
These different figures went all around because is was “so easy” to extract more power of that engine, and because the engine could take it so well.
I don’t know if you could order it new or had to add it later and I don’t think the factory would open back doors…
As far as I know there were different version of the 993T for US, ROW and Brazil. I have the Vin numbers somewhere.
Additionally there were different equipments for 27 different countries.
The Story of the army guy in Germany … I heard a thousand variations of that same story to explain discrepancies in Porsches. Forget it.

AFAIK is:
408cv
430cv
450cv
You can check the turbos and and the DME P/N to see if they are the bigger turbos and correct DME for 450cv option. If so (450cv) most likely was upgraded at some point.
Maybe if you run the VIN for options, then it can tell you if your car was equipped with the X50 (430cv) power package or not. Although, not sure if the X50 came with the extra oil cooler or this was a separate option...at least in mine the X50 and the extra oil cooler are different option codes listed in my VIN.
430CV = K16 turbos + reprogrammed DME
450CV = K24 turbos + reprogrammed DME (different than 430 CV DME)

This is the 993tt XLC 450hp package minus the oil cooler only for 1998 993tt model. The ECU ending with P/N 85 is the 450hp power maker for 1998 only, ECU ending with P/N 83 is the 430hp for 1997, both works with K24 turbos.

Absolutely. The book is Porsche 911 turbo AIR-COOLED YEARS by Gabriel-Franz. It's was a limited edition and sold out but they pop up on e-bay every once in a while - that's where I found mine.
