So where does one get such a beast? Are there decent non-factory manuals? Is the "Porsche 993, the essential companion" worthwhile?

Streather book isn't really a repair manual. a good reference, but the factory manuals are the thing to do repairs. search the forum....there is a website where i downloaded the entire manual in pdf. cannell.co.uk or something like that. just saw this in a recent post last week or so...

Isn't there a download of the entire set in .pdf format for $20 somewhere? Is it worth it?

The full manual set is really worth it. It is printed on nice paper. Especially good are the 3 pages long pull out wiring diagrams.

Keep looking on eBay.
I've seen three sets go for less than $400 (plus shipping) in the past 30 days.
I paid nearly $600 for mine last year. EVERYTHING is less expensive at this time.

I downloaded the full manual and printed it out then put a binder on each section. 1482 pages takes a while to print, thats for sure. Having the file only is helpful but it's brutal to find the sections you need then you wind up printing what you need out anyway. My time would have been better spent forking out $400 and not killing the time with all the work involved. For those interested here's the website that has the download http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm
