Hi There. I would like to put my hand up for at least one unit. Would prefer a finished (brusched or polished) version - a little more finished than the one you have produced (which is great by the way). I would but a bronze one and a alloy one. Alloy one I would look to spend 1-200. Obviously more for oother media.

Please put me down on your list of definately interested if you should choose to go ahead.

Like the clock project I think you would find at least 50 firm takers here....

Kind Regards

Anthony,

I'd love to see some higher res photos. If you need help scaling down your original ones, email them to me and I can re-size them. Let me know if you want my email address.

Nicely done. In future photos include a STANDARD item for scale (like a US quarter or something we all know the size of).

VERY cool. My hand's up for one too if you decide to "mass produce."

Mark,

That would be helpful. Please forward me your address. They aren't the best shots to begin with though.

As far as making more. I wasn't originally planing to. I am actually making these as a gift to my local PCA region. We are hosting the Zone Concours event this year in May and will be doing something with them but said too much already for now. After I make the ones for the event I can see about making a few for my friends here although this was not my initial intention.

I am not sure of my costs yet since I only made the one. Once in production of 30 or so units I can fine tune the process and cost. I would sell these for a margin above actual manufacturing costs. Since each one is hand made it will not be all that cheap. Roughly I am guessing around $75-80 for an unfinished unit and $120-150 for a completed unit depending on level of detail and material used. Aluminum, brass or bronze. Although this price can go either way until I figure it out. Tooling has cost me nearly $2k alone.

If this is still in everyone's price range I can do it. Otherwise I would be taking a loss. I would probably limit quantities and all would be serialized and marked so the marking could not be duplicated. This will have to be determined.

I will run a thread at that time but need to look into rennlist rules and other concerns before I do.

Your comments and ideas are always welcome.

Anthony,
Remember my Carrera desk clock project? I made and sold 70 of those to Rennlisters all over the world. A lot of work, but very satisfying.

I'm in for the prices you listed. Even more if need be.

Very, very nice.

What kind of aluminum did you use?

Have you considered pewter? It has a far lower melting temperature, is softer and overall easier to work with.

That looks very cool. If we get a group buy together, I'd be interested.

I used a basic aluminum alloy 319. Relatively easy to work with and polishes nicely. there are higher sheen alloys I could use but are costly and can be a bit tricky to work with. I only cast aluminum, magnesium, brass and bronze.

I will work up the pricing for a group buy but need some time. I need to complete the first units for the Zone Concours events in May first.

Figure April for the group buy and I will need 4 weeks to deliver kits and 8 weeks to deliver completed units. I would probably take names and then bill prior to shipment so nobody gets hurt. I am doing this on the side and regular business must come first.
