Default Dumb question on emblem

Hi All,

Dumb question really, but I hope someone knows the answer. The 993 I bought didn't have an emblem, so I got one off eBay. The part looks new, but I can't get the gasket to fit around the emblem. So I thought:

1. I got a wrong gasket with the emblem
2. I need to know some secret install technique
3. the gasket needs stretching
4. some other reasons that I can't think of right now.

If anyone has any input, I love to hear it!!
BTW the part number has 993 as first 3 digits, 00 as last 2 digits (I'm at work so I can't look up the whole part number).

Thanks

Default Gasket

You have the correct one. The new gaskets need to be stretched around the hood badge. The way I do this is to have the gasket and badge on the hood and tighten the nuts to pull the badge to the hood. JUST DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY YET. Once the badge is snug get a small tool (plastic is best) that will allow you to get between the edge of the badge and the gasket. This should pull the lip of the gasket around the edge of the badge. Once the gasket is around the badge tighten the nuts the rest of the way.

Imerse the gasket into a cup of hot water .... to soften it: it should then stretch over the badge prior to fitting to the hood.

One could also warm the gasket with a hairdryer ...

Good hint. Also, only tighten the nuts to gently snug the crest to the hood. Futher tightening will cause the crest to flatten, and lose its curvature.

Also excellent advice. As usual.

Thanks for the replies so far. I didn't know how the gasket was suppose to stretch. From the look of the emblem and the gasket, the 2 look to be the same size. But since the emblem is suppose to fit under the lip (or the gasket is to form a parameter around the emblem) I didn't think I can stretch it that much. But I will try when I get home from work later.

BTW the part number on the emblem is 993-559-211-00 whereas the box label says 993-559-211-99.

Thanks again for all the input.

Most of the badges on Ebay are aftermarket and the gaskets that come with them are pure JUNK! The only way to go is to buy a gasket at the dealer. It fits the badge perfect without having to stretch or dunk it in hot water.

I bought an OEM gasket when my car was resprayed, and although I don't know what my body guy did to get it to fit, I know it didn't fit well as it came.

It's also easier to install with a wooden toothpick to help stretch the gasket around the this emblem.

Thanks guys. Just took the drill, a cup of hot water and a small tooth pick and installed the emblem. I guess when the nut is screwed on, the gasket will start to stretch. The tooth pick just helps to get the edge around.

I just completed a front end respray had them leave the badge off until my clear bra was installed. I installed the OE badge and gasket (from Sunset) myself and it had to be stretched to fit similar to the OP's.
